Well, Mike ran in to problems getting ldjam.com working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.

Vir Die Beker

by chaotikZA - Jam Entry

Vir Die Beker is Afrikaans for "For The Cup". The game was created in collaboration with my cousin Sas.

It is a game for and about our group of cousins in which you compete to steal the cup from the other players. The first player that manages to take the cup from the centre room of the building and drop it in their own room 3 times wins. If you die you lose a point, so it may take a bit of work. You have your fists to fight your opponents, you might find a 6 shot revolver as a better weapon - note that you can't fight while carrying the cup.

We didn't get around to implementing AI, so this is best played with some friends. Up to 4 people can play with joystick or 2 with keyboard (unfortunately we don't yet reassign joysticks if a player chooses the keyboard, so player 1 and 2 hog the keyboard and a joystick).

Controls for Keyboard 1:
- WASD: Movement
- X: Pick up / drop item
- C: Use item

Controls for Keyboard 2:
- IJKL: Movement
- ": Pick up / drop item
- ;: Use item

Gamepad (tested with XBox 360 controllers):
- DPad / Left Stick: Movement
- X: Pick up / drop item
- A: Use item

You can quit at any time with ESCAPE.

The theme led me to thinking about the old Spy vs Spy game from the 80s (I think), which showed one room on the screen for each player, so we went for a similar split-screen one room visible per player approach.
