The Lady of Shalott

by mysterycoder - Jam Entry

This is an adventure game inspired by Tennyson's poem "The Lady of Shalott," which is about a lady escaping a room she is trapped in. We'd like to add further dialogue and more puzzles in the future so that the player can explore many alternative endings for the Lady of Shalott.

Click to interact with the scene, the buttons on the bottom right hand corner control whether you are observing or interacting.

The game was created using Phaser ( in javascript. All of the art was created during the jam, as well as the engine powering the game. We utilized Tiled for the map editing ( and ink for the text portions (

Emma: Art, Writing
John: Programming, Editing, Writing
Ryan: Text Murmuring (Programming and Voice Acting), Writing, Finding Audio

Fixed issue with touch devices, so should be playable on tablet or mobile.

I love the graphics so much! Sound is not working for me (or there is no sound in the game). I had a problems doing something at all I managed to get the scarf and then die by placing it over the lantern and overall I felt lost in the game but that is probably more issue with me than with the game.

Interesting idea, the mirror character is well built and the art looks very nice. I was actually surprised I could kill myself XD Wasn't sure how to actually advance in the game, but overall I liked it a lot ^-^

Thanks for all of the kind comments :)
The game was originally conceived more of an interactive fiction. The inventory was added late in the competition so the puzzles are limited.

To access the winning ending: Grab the book before talking to the mirror and choose the option "Throw something". Then continue on with the conversation and you will have an alternate ending.

Nice artwork, could not save her and could not find another ending. Needs more item interactions.

Awesome artwork and smooth mechanics. I love that the text for the dialogue murmurs! :)

Very arty. I had a really good experience with this game. Possibly the first 5 for mood i've ever awarded.
