Well, Mike ran in to problems getting working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.

Throne Room

by keravcin - Jam Entry

Anyone who played this before, there is now an update that increased the speed of everything by 6 times, amongst other fixes.

Throne Room is a "dialogues based" strategy game. You are the Ruler of your own Lands, Workers, Military and Civilisation.
Build Mines, Farms, Defences, Towns and other structures on unoccupied Land after your Scouting expedition returns.
This game has some randomness to it, and somewhat has Rogue-like elements, but there are strats you can come up with to help push the game in your favour.
There was little testing and this game would benefit from some good balancing, so I apologise if the lack there of ruins your experience, but I hope you enjoy it and thanks for playing!

* A good starting build is 1 Scouting and 2 Recruiting, make the new recruits Soldiers, and then start Scouting with the 1 Worker and 2 Soldiers.

* You can choose how many Workers/Soldiers/Cannons go on Scouting and Trading expeditions (also how many Workers for building tasks), the more Workers the faster, but Soldiers slow it down a bit (especially Cannons).

* Soldiers/Cannons on expeditions can fight off Barbarian ambushes. If any one of your units survive from an ambush they bring back Gold Coin loot.

* Your Food resource is always ticking away, it will show how much expense in parenthesis. Workers and Soldiers not on expedition will consume more Food (Workers 3, Soldiers 5).

* Some expeditions require a certain structure (like Farming requires a Farm). To get these structures, you must Scout, which has random chance to find some new Land. Be prepared with a good amount of Timber before you start building. Try not to build a House first in early game.

* Every expedition's speed and yield is based on things like Civilian Happiness and Task Skill. Build more structures to increase happiness and to gain more Task Skill. You can also do Research to gain Task Skill.

* Timber can only be acquired by random chance from Scouting.

* Build more Farms and Mines to increase their yield output.

* Build Houses to increase your pop cap.

* When the Command window is open, it will pause the progress of any tasks.

Really like the game. I really hoped there would be a button to speed things up a bit. But the gameplay was fun. Really like the graphics. Overall nice game to play. Keep it up!

I think you did a great job in the game's depth, there is a lot of content, and all of it made only in 72 hours, well done.

I really enjoyed this. Its easy to overlook the balance because the soul of the game is very much real. I hope you continue to work on this, it is off to a great start!

Interesting idea and gameplay, the game is more complex than I expected.

Although the game seriously lacks an option to speed things up (I was kind of bored by just waiting for expedition to finish), also each single time I found barbarians, my worker died (even with soldiers) - so I guess some balancing is wrong there.

All in all, it is quite complex and really nice. For 72 hours compo - well done!

Awesome! Only it felt like it took awhile to get things going at the beginning. Or something to do while waiting for timers to finish

I love that this game just shows an empty throne room, and then other things happen that you hear about. I'm into it! I really enjoyed building up my kingdom. Thanks!

Really cool game. I liked the progression and flow of the game, however, as other have said, a speed option would have been great.

I enjoyed the game, but I had really awful RNG. Three times I lost my worker on the first expedition. I managed to build a farm once.. but then I ran out of food and gold. Maybe this its a bit too harsh starting out? Still, I can see a lot of depth here and I commend your efforts. I kind of made a similar game.. except you are playing as a dungeon boss in a one room dungeon sending out minions.

I liked the idea, for me it needs a button to advance the time, I would also like the king and the messenger xD, but I really liked it a lot, the graphics look promising. Good game, good job.

I like the game.
Main graphics are really cool.

As a problem that I found, when you play with a low resolution (like 800x600), it's quite unplayable, because you can't read anything and you can't view the icons.

But good game!

(Forgive my bad english)
The game is cool, really.
You've done a really good job.
But sometimes the dialogs are so slow and sometimes boring.
Often the messenger text comes out of the white box.
Anyway, the game can have a future. A good future.
It's also pretty difficult FOR ME :)

I would like to thank you all for playing!
I've updated the speed of the game, increased by 6 times.
I also addressed the issue of dialogue messages being unreadable in low resolutions.
I've made the window now resizable so you can play in windowed and resize however you want.
Also, I fixed the issue with workers being killed if you have Soldiers to defend them.

The new links are updated.

Thanks <3

Nice work on this. It feels like a complete game, which is impressive for the short space of time. I also probably played this longer than any game so far to try to build up my kingdom but eventually I ran out of gold and all my people died :(. I like how you expanded the universe out of the room without leaving the room. The room itself looks cool too. Thanks. -RS
