Well, Mike ran in to problems getting ldjam.com working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.
Room of Shadows is a top down orthographic game.
You spawn in a room. The light colored walls can be destroyed with your hammer. The goal is to get rid of all the shadows in the big end room (destroying all breakable walls) and killing all enemies. Your progress is shown on the shadow meter.
Two types of enemies. One that builds walls back up if you don't kill it first, the other chases and attacks you when you are in range. Enemies spawn in the shadows.
Ran out of time to add audio and finish the enemy models / animations.

Thanks for taking the time to play the game. The game could really use some balancing >.< I don't think I can change it after the fact right?
Thanks for the feed back. The melee attack range of the mobs is a little short, so if you float yourself just out of range, you can walk backwards and hit em is my strategy! :)
I don't know why, but i can't press any button on the main screen.
Sorry, i was unable to test it !
Oh no. I'm sorry, I didn't get to play test all the resolutions. So maybe some of the hit boxes on buttons are off? Sorry, thanks for trying. :)
Its not as easy as it looks :) but very interesting and dynamic
Throughout development I was winning just fine. I think when I increased the randomness of how big the final room can be make it quite a bit more difficult, as I can't win half the time either hahaha.
Thank you for playing! :)
Room of Shadows feels like a zombie apocalypse gaem. It also gives me an impression of reversed Xonix. Melee weapon makes it really challenging. I like that rooms are randomized.
I think you should finish it. I'd certainly play more of it, with more variations and difficulties. The concept is really interesting.
That was interesting game. Haven't realised that I am the source of light.
Good work )
Thanks again you guys for playing. Maybe I will finish this game. I really wanted to get enemy models done that have little evil eyes that you can see over the walls. So as they spawn you can see they are spawning. Would help explain the spawning in the shadows concept. As saurterr says maybe I'll add a model to the player that gives you the sense that the light is coming from you.
Great feedback guys and gals! Thank you.
Wow, that was way too difficult for me, very frustrating and I had to rage-quit after my tenth attempt or so. Maybe put some health-powerups in the walls and/or reduce the enemy spawning rate? Apart from that, I liked the concept :)
Cool concept but yeah, definitely pretty hard. Some variation in weapons/attacks would be cool. Keep it up!

Oh wow. Cool game, really like the visuals! However, I found it too difficult. I tried to take it slow as to prevent enemies spawning behind me, but that resulted in the already built rooms filling up with so many enemies that when you pop it open, you have no chance to kill the horde. So then I started rushing more but found that rooms filled too quickly any way and I had the same problem, but now with enemies behind me as well.
I think it could work better with a range weapon or some kind of aoe attack. Or perhaps only a few numbers need to be tweaked to make it somewhat more balanced.
Great effort none the less!
