Just a normal top-down shooter

This is just a regular top-down shooter ... With a twist!

Let me know how I did for my first LD game ever :D

***BUGFIX post-comp***
(Hopefully) fixed a bug that caused the game to crash when hitting multiple things with the same bullet. Many had this problem though I could not reproduce it in the debugger.

To run this, you will need the 2015 Visual C++ Redistributable if you don't have it already. You can download it here:

To compile the source, you need openFrameworks. Just follow the tutorial on their website:

Nice game! Had a consistent artstyle, the fonts were fitting and the gameplay is pretty funny. It eventually gets repetitive, though. I also encountered a crash, I think it is triggered by hitting two enemies with one shot, although I am not sure.

Was pretty fun and enjoyable for a while, but then crashed shortly after I got hit once or around 4 opponents.

Nice game and idea! I think the concept worked well, I however was quite bad at it. It crashed on my as well, don't why or how, just fyi.

@all Thanks for your feedback! Regarding the crash: I will hopefully fix it soon. It should be caused by hitting multiple enemies with the same blast.

It should fit more in "shoot'em'up" - "danmaku" or "bullet hell" or something like that than in "top down shooter" in my opinion.
But let's forget theses considerations to talk about the game itself, the mechanic of enemies who copy you when you're touched is very cool, but not very exploited, the game is still too short and simple. It would be nice to have more variety with powers, differenciates hero shoots and enemy shoots... generally have more feedbacks, a moving background, things like that. Good luck for enhancing your game or work in other projects, and gj tho for submit your first LD game at the mercy of internet :>.
(Oh, and I got the crash too, unfortunately I can't figured why :/ )

Cool game! Made me remind me of an old game i used to play called Skimmer i think. It ran on a floppy disk xD
The sound effects and art are good, but the game could use a background image and music to add a little more excitement.

Cool game! I like the idea of enemies not getting eliminated as you shoot them, and the game stacking the deck against you both with respect to time and the number of times you have died. The spinning ship effect and different colour for ships you lost is also neat. Cool Atari-style sound effects too! Thanks for your submission!

I enjoyed this. My final game I seemed to take advantage of the logic and just sat in the lower left for a while, not shooting, until I died, then sat in the lower right tapping the space bare racking up points until I got to 1024 and got bored. Seems they didn't ever shoot me there except dead-on, and the bullet cancelling made me invincible!

i thought the game play element where a new enemy would be spawned as you were hit innovative although unfair. It was fun to play. then it became ridiculous haha. I wouldnt be sure where to go from what you have though in terms of developing the idea further. Maybe id the difficulty edged up slower it would make the game last longer or something. Great entry ^^
