Well, Mike ran in to problems getting ldjam.com working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.
Alright, here is my first ludum dare game! I haven't done this before, so I was excited to take part in this. Quipp is a almost arcade-y platforming game, that I made way too unfair. I made the graphics first, in 3 hours, then did the rest of the game. You may experience some slow framerates, because of my shitty coding.
Enjoy!
CONTROLS
Arrow keys for movement.
X to fire/interact
Z to enter the portal.
EDIT:
I am working on an updated version, because of all the amazing feedback I have been given! Thanks for playing. <3

Fun game + looks great, difficulty spiked in the second room though
The random spread on the gun makes it interesting
Congratulations for your first submission. The game runs well and is really difficult.
There are some flaws with how this game is laid out.
1. You start the game by pressing X, but once in the game text appears:
_1a. Reading this text will make you die because the enemies walk right into you if you don't run away fast enough.
_1b. X button doesn't actually do anything when you're in the game.
I couldn't actually figure out how to kill the enemies for about 5 minutes because jumping on them sometimes killed me.
Sometimes it seems only 1 enemy spawns, whilst sometimes 2 spawn? This is a minor gripe, but the inconsistency is a bit confusing.
How much money you have seems to fade away, why not have this as a constant on the screen? If the game doesn't let you buy more weapons it'd make more sense to just hand the player a gun after clearing the first room.
Overall the game feels very unfair, killing you within miliseconds of spawning into the game.
It could have benefitted from a few more hours of polish.
Some pros:
The art is very nice!
Sound effects are fitting, makes me wish you had background music.
The gun feels powerful aiding game feel, the spread is a bit too big though.
Particle dust effect when jumping is very neat!
I hope you participate next jam aswell! :)

Pretty good, especially for a first time LD entry. Congrats on completing. I had no issues with framerates, although the game was brutal. Nice work!
Like what I played and experienced so far. Just a bit annoyed by the fact that I have to kill the first ( two ) guy every time I respawned.
Nice game. It looks great. :D
It would've been nice if the enemies were jumping though.
I have a migraine... couldn't find any money! Your dude is awesome
Someone has watched the Vlambeer talk about game feel hehe
Really nice asthetic, It's pretty hard.
It's hard. Too hard. I couldn't figure how to kill the enemies for quite some time since you need to land perfectly on their head. But hey! It's a game. Wohoo.
Fun game, but It took me a while to figure out the gameplay, I finished some levels and died because of the not real clear collision boxes. Overall, I liked it.
Nice work!
Nice little game, the difficulty jump from level 1 to level 2 really threw me and I sort of panicked haha!
Congrats on your first Ludum Dare though!
I liked it! really hard game, maybe the gun is a bit too innacurate? Great graphics!
Really nice fun game. If jumping on enemy heads didn't randomly kill me and if the tutorial were better, it would be perfect.
Well done! I didn't experience any slow framerates. Game was fun but very difficult, and I accidentaly teleported to the second level before I bought the gun a couple of times.. Graphics and sound effects are good.
Good job!
Congrats on your first LD. I really wished there was checkpoints. I had to give up on the trap level.
Gun recoil and effects were really cool. Well done!
I finished some levels and had fun with the gameplay. Unfortunately I died some levels after because of the 'not so clear collision box'. The gameplay is actually interesting and I liked it.
Overall, nice work! :)
By far the best looking game I've played in this compo yet. the Jumping on heads was sketchy. It seems like half the time it worked and the other half you died. Pretty fun once you get the gun, couldn't get more than 125 coins.
A very hardcore game, the graphics are similar to "The Binding of Isaac"
Very punishing! Great entry and awesome job on your first LD! I enjoyed playing-
the game it's really hard, but because the controller need some improviments like intead of press to shot, make hold the buttom and fix the accuracy, is too random, but the graphics is good, well done
Cool feedback but add some explanation for guide the player.
And maby fix the framerates too ^^
Good job for art and your first entry !
The game has a strange difficulty curve : at first, No way to know how to even start the game, I had to press every button in hope to do something. Then it's okay in with the first two mobs. And then...holy carp it's hard. I went to level 4.
Nice gamefeel, you really understood the vlambeer approach to juice. Maybe the gun is a bit random.
Also, I don't know if it's on purpose but there's a very small window to oneshot ennemies when jumping on them :D.
Congratulations on the entry !
Graphics and gameplay were solid for a first try! A usability pass would go a long way. It took me embarrassingly long time to figure out I was supposed to press 'x' at the title screen. Or how to get to the 2nd level, for that matter.
I got the slow down pretty bad but still managed to get to level 3. It was fun, I would have liked some more level variation though
Banged my head on the 4th level wall for 10minutes. Fun and hard game!
Recommend adding controls to the browser version's description.
I'm not sure I'd classify it as difficult in a good sense. I like the game but the randomness of the spray of the gun makes it very difficult to have any control. After several tries I got past stage 2 just to have more enemies thrown at me with no increase in control.
Overall though I still really like it.
There are some small adjustments needed to the hit detection for jumping on enemies I felt, but other than that it was a solid mini platformer. My strategy became to jump onto the second platform and wait for gaps in the enemies to blast away, which got me to level four. Obviously could've used more weapons, but still a great first edition.
Game look good but i don't understand controls and mechanics... :/
Nice game for the ludum! Quiet difficult I feel, but great graphics and good game feel.
Interesting, though I'd like if there were more options for weapons and reasons to spend money in general. The random spread on the gun is interesting but I think it could also take less shots to down enemies, and/or have piercing shots so maybe you can hit two guys at once if they are lined up and the shot travels right. Or possibly just some upgrades for the gun you can gain later. Congratulations on the submission, and hope this helped!
I really enjoyed what I played! I did experience some framerate problems which seems to be due to shells which are not destroyed in a timely manner. The animations look GREAT and I really like the way the gun shoots.
The game worked fine, no slow frame rate. I couldn't pass the first room, I didn't know what to do! T-T Keep up the good work!
oh! Nice! And it's also online! Can I find it on indiexpo? I'm making videos about the games of this Jam, but only about the games hosted also on indiexpo! Tell me if you will add it, so I can include it in my next video ;)
Nice game.Spike should make it more visible. I thought It just game background. :')
That's a good start, graphics are nice and the game works well.
Maybe two things can improve the game:
- better collision detection (it take me time that figure out that we can jump on ennemies because the first time I try, I died)
- think about level design: each level is hard at the beginning, then we just have to shoot from a side and jump on a platform to avoid ennemies, again and again.. So first part is too hard (we don't have time to see what appends) and the second part is too repetitive. You can change that by changing your level design (and maybe the ennemy behavior: some fall, other not...)
But that is nice for a first LD, good luck for the next!
clean style and reliables game mechanic.
R for restarting the game should better be disabled during Gameplay ;-)
Congrats on your first LD! :D
I didn't really understand what I needed to do. It wanted me to buy a gun? But even if I smashed all the blocks no gold (or the currency?) came out. All that left me with was those black shadow people wandering around the stage. I did figure out I needed to jump on the heads of the shadow guys, but, I died a lot. Small hit boxes?
After dying to them a few times it let me press Z to continue? (probably a bug).
I clear goal would be great. Maybe after not getting it after a certain amount of time? Also if you died in later stages you had a few chances to continue instead of doing it all over again.
Your controls with the jumping was nice though :)
I noticed massive slowdowns starting at level 2, might have something to do with bullet shells never despawning. The game was challenging enough with the huge amount of enemies. Did not make it past level 4.
Fantastic work for a first time at Ludum Dare. Difficulty definitely spiked in the second room, especially since I'm pretty much the worst at platforming (it's hilarious how truly awful). I really liked a lot of the little sound effects and bits of art that went into this. Great work overall.
The second level is to hard, but game is very interesting, good job!

Congrats on completing your first Ludum Dare!
The game ran well for me, didn't notice any slowdowns you mention in the description. But damn, the difficult really ramps up! I couldn't make it past level 3. haha
