Ludum Dare 37 — December 9th-11th, 2016 — Theme: One Room

Well, Mike ran in to problems getting working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.

Room Builder

by peredm - Compo Entry

Build weapons, repair walls and fight cat monsters! All in one room! A fast paced, action, shooting game where you have to choose how to spend your Build Power and resources to avoid being killed by the evil cat monsters.

Music was generated procedurally with (not as easy as it sounds!)

OPEN CRATES WITH E after buying the turrets. Once in the shop menu you can switch between actual shop and turrets menu with W and S. Everything else is tought in-game.

Save all your BP and start building turreties as soon as posible. The enemies are exponential so you'll need to start with a good amount of turrets. If you do this and buy powerups wisely you'll see all the depth the game has.

I'd change the design and tweak a couple variables so I wouldn't have to explain this but I can't update the game now that the compo has finished.

Nice game! I found it too hard though so maybe some numbers need balancing. I never actually got to buying anything as I couldnt make enough money. But that might have just been me. Otherwise it just feels great, especially with how you move backwards when shooting! Great job!

Enjoyed this for the most part, however the difficulty is ramped up pretty high. Had a tough time building much of anything before dying. That being said, I like the idea and enjoyed the aesthetic!

Hmm.. The turrets don't do anything unless I am doing something horrible wrong >_> Besides that interessting setting and quite fun

This game is cute but brutal, how can I even fix a hole without dying! haha. The farthest I got was to the first black bunny.

Fun little game that's pretty hard to play. :) Sounds are cool, but the music a bit repetitive.

Movement and gameplay is smooth and pretty furious (I think the enemies are a bit tough)

Its like Nuclear Throne but with cats

Dec 12, 2016 @ 9:00pm

Realization is absolutely great ! Great job. The game is smooth, animations are nice and the gameplay is really pleasant !

Maybe a bit easy to spam the room with basic turrets that make the game quite endless (and a bit noisy, ahah) :D

But I really did enjoy it !

Nice game, really liked the cute graphics, music, and the hole repair was a nice variation. Just too damn hard. I never had build power to repair the holes

Dec 12, 2016 @ 9:04pm

Really cool game but it needs some balancing. It's crazy hard.

Really nicely done, but incredibly hard. I could only ever get out one turret before I was completely overrun. Perhaps a little lower BP requirements at the end to get some headway against the horde coming at you.

My anti-virus flagged this as a Trojan horse. may want to check into that.

Overall a very cute game, with what should be cool mechanics if it wasn't so damn hard. :D The turrets just seem to be boxes that don't shoot, which didn't help.

The graphics are very good. The music does its job in making me feel under siege and anxious, and the sound effects are decent enough where present. It just feels like it's missing sounds for some actions.

A rebalance and fix of the turrets would definitely get me playing this again.

Very polished game. I find it to be quite difficult, but perhaps I'm just really bad at this game. Also, the first message for the instruction confused me a bit, I think it would be clearer if you changed 'use the arrows' to 'use the arrow keys'. Other than that, great game.

Looks great and gameplay is fun. But I cannot even find a time to build a turret. There are too much of them :(

I love it! At the first two tries I wasn't able to get the first turret down, but on the third one I did. I survived so long that I had to stop playing because I had other things to do :D. I don't even know if there is end or not but it was great. Amazing entry!

Wow, this is an awful lot of game elements you managed to integrate
in this short time.
Took me too long to gather some coins for improvement.
Strategic rewards should be easier to access before you are overwhelmed by monsters.
The music is nicely composed, but the sacral touch is not my taste.
With an improved balancing this game concept is very innovative.

Awesome game !

The difficulty curve is a bit weird, it took quite a few attemps to get to the first turret. But then it's really great and come back harder after a while (so the difficulty curve is : hard as f => really easy => hard) ! The values for buying more BP and Health are a bit misleading (it cost 30g while it's marked as 50g & 75g)

But overall, I really love your game and spent more time playing than any other game so far, just because it was so much fun.

Congratulations on the entry !

Yeah, I agree with everyone above - this game is super hard; I only managed to fix a couple of holes. I think you should at least disable enemy spawning from a hole that is being repaired.

Otherwise, fun & addictive!

I really like this build. It has an elegance to the simple design that is nice. Tutorial is built into the design. Controls don't change between modes (shop-gameplay).

Difficulty ramps up a little to quick compared to "build power". Enemy chase AI makes building the turrets nearly impossible due to the time it takes to stand still and build the turret.

After you show the player how to repair the wall, you might consider letting them build a few walls for free or super cheap as that is the intuitive direction you've given the player. It took me a few damaging experiments to realize that I wasn't able to build for some reason I only found out later.

Other than that, really good job on this.

This one is really fun, I really enjoyed it. Lots a features and the polish is pretty good. Neat compo.

Hey, I liked your game it was actually fun.
You can improve the audio and the graphics at some point but overall not bad!
And please go and try out my game!

Pretty and fun. I found it quite hard. The room building idea was great to increase the lifetime of a room shooter. It was very hard micromanage though, could do with wave and a lull in the fighting to improve the dynamics.

Looks and feels awesome! After the third hole appeared the game got very hard quickly. The music feels a little bit too "medieval" but overall the sound feels very good

Cool entry but really hard to reach all the content... I couldn't last very long. Art is great, music is good too! Just a few fixes will make it balanced :D

The game looks pretty nice, but it's to challenging! :P Kinda hard to kill, repair and build stuff there!

Visuals look pretty nice and the music is fitting too! :D

Nice little defense game. Unfortunately, the constant flow of monster made it impossible to build anything. I think it could work better with ennemies coming in "waves"...

Good job on the game but i would like to clear up a unfair acusation you made about our game:
You said we "used someone elses art without credit" and asked us to read the rules, however, according to the rules:
"You’re free to use 3rd party Artwork/Music/Audio assets, or assets you previously created, but we ask that you OPT-OUT of the respected voting categories (Graphics, Audio). You can opt-out of a voting category when you submit your game."
The majority of the art we used we purchased from the unity store, hence granting us legal right to use. The rest was either created by ourselves or used from opengameart, in which the user specified we did not need to credit the source.
We appreciate you taking the time to play our game but in the future please read the rules before making unnecessary accusations.
Good work on your game!
