Well, Mike ran in to problems getting working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.

Try, Get fried, Repeat

by pagi - Compo Entry

Try, Get fried, Repeat is a fast-paced speedrunning game situated in a bedroom. The room is getting filled with lava, and the only way to save yourself is by getting to the top of the room. Unfortunately your only form of movement is your hook. With its help you can jump up the furniture and survive the lavapocalypse(Or is it magma when it is inside a room?). The game is really hard - sorry - but it is winnable and that by multiple routes. Enjoy the trying!

Controls: Use mouse to look around, left click to shoot a hook, right click to release.

Tips for lazy people:
You can hook to another object in-air, but until you touch the ground, gravity force will keep accumulating until it exceeds the hook's one.
By deactivating the hook mid-flight you can slide, which can be helpful, but also deadly.

Regarding some physics concerns: yes it is not flawless, rarely collisions don't register right and because of the voxel graphics movement can be complicated. Important to note is that if you hook from mid-air, it won't pull you up, until you return to the ground, the gravity force will keep increasing.

Played this years ago IRL :) A really hard game. The room and lava look good.

Interesting concept, but it was quite hard, I had some difficulties to get the physics' way of working, getting stuck really easily and sometimes falling down without knowing why. ^^'

My best score : 31.37 s, not that a good score I imagine. ><

This game is highly addictive. Hardest part is escaping the low levels. Great job!

Damn, that's so confusing :D

I was always trying to press WASD to get at least a bit closer :) That's definitely a "+" for innovation, good job!

Hook's a bit glitchy sometimes but really nifty concept and I love the "OMG LAVA IS COMING" feel. :D

Whew! That was tense and fun. I only just managed to beat 30 seconds but I had heaps of tries. Very addictive once you begin to understand the mechanics.

A nice entry :D It's fun to try to find new ways about the room. The controls may be a bit weird but it's no bit problem. It's a fun little game, good job!

yep, this was friggin hard XD mostly because i couldn't climb in any way once close to a ledge without a support underneath or objects in my view when i hooked too close. Overall I like the idea :D it's a bit like indiana jones meets popular "the floor is lava" game from kids :P

Cool concept and nice grappling hook mechanic, took me a while to get used to it but was quite fun when I did. Nice touch with the music volume increasing the higher you got. good effort.
