Well, Mike ran in to problems getting ldjam.com working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.

This room leads to happiness

by Bejk - Jam Entry

Team BroRawr's first Ludum Dare ever!

I want to start by thanking everyone of you for leaving nice comments and genreally making our first Ludum Dare a joyful experience!

Stress and panic aside, me and my teammate, Granlord, really pushed ourselves to our limits with this one.
Halfway in we scrapped one project and changed the whole core concept of the game and went from pixelart to 3D (a field I'm not so comfortable with tbh..)
All things considered, I am glad we changed approach and went for the 3D route.
This way we can more effectively tell the story we want to share with you :)

Ok, So the general idea with this game is:
Humans are gone, everything is run by machines, you are under the control of the FryNet™.
You play as a hen, waiting on a large treadmill with your buddies to enter what you think is "The room that leads to happiness".
However, right before your turn, the doors glitch out and you witness all the horrors going on behind these walls.
This is where you decide to break free and fight the system!

Due to our limited time we never got to tell this story in game.
The player starts off right after the hen breaks free and gets her wings on a grenade launcher. (I know, awesome, right?! :D)
She is now in the lower levels of the building where the overlord of FryNet sends manager bots after her!

We found inspiration from:
*Doom - Music and FPS feel
*Stanley Parable - Humour
*Portal - Humour

Tools we used:
*Unity
*Blender
*Pyxel
*Audacity
*Adobe Creative Suite

These are some bugs I have noticed since I posted this build:
*Bots are stacking when spawning
*Bots lights are not triggering properly, should be red only when targeting player
*Bots voicelines are gone, dafuq?
*Difficulty is broken, only hard works atm.. (Dont worry its not that hard)
*Gui is a little bit squished

Examples of missing bot voicelines:

https://instaud.io/F2m
https://instaud.io/F2o

We are very open to criticism, we entered this competition to grow as a studio and to learn, regardless of our results.. I think we have :)

PS:
I am sorry Linux/Mac people, my programmer is fast asleep (he worked like a real champ these last hours <3).
Downloads to other OS's will therefore be up tomorrow!
Same goes for a Web build!

Oh, btw..
We will go back and complete this game after the event!

Good work. Runs smooth. The particle systems look really good and I like the physics on the rocket. IT kind of lobs out. Hard mode was really hard.

Thank you!
We were testing physics with that rocket and had so much fun with it that we decided to stick with it :)

This was a lot of fun. I really like the art style and music. The rocket launcher was a creative weapon choice. It was very difficult.

Wish there was an easy mode :D Good art, nice music. Bot's AI seems to break when they "fly" up.

It feels a little rough around the edges but for restarting midway through the jam this is really good work.

I think being able to adjust the mouse sensitivity would go a long way.

I loved the difficulty scale. Easy normal and hard? More like Git Gud Skrub! That part made me laugh.

The game itself was fun, but I would suggest a few changes. Increase the rate of fire to make the combat more intense and involving. Take the enemies from two hits down to one hit. Create incentive to move around the room and to keep on fighting. Everything was well done and worked great, but I found myself hiding in one corner out of the aggro range of most of the enemies and found little reason to venture out from there.

Overall, a great submission!

@PaidGeek
First of all, thanks for the compliments and thanks for playing!
Secondly, both easy/normal exist, we just forgot to activate them before posting this build, the flying ceiling bots break because of their rotation when triggering certain stages of its animation.
This have more or less been fixed now!

@mmason Thanks man! Options will be added post Jam

@djrariel haha I opted for laughs with that one, I will revisit the menus and make them better, post jam.
The "Git Gud" animation will be more badass and the sprites will be bigger. We might even rename "hard" -> "git gud".. I liked that!
Thank you for your suggestions!

Rocket can be a little hard to aim at first, but is very satisfying to land a hit. Great work guys!

Insane! (in a good way)

The game is very fun and hard (yes, is hard) but you guys concerned with important UX aspects and the game is almos complete (in mechanics).

If this is your first LD, you guys are in the very right path. Keep going and game on!

Oh it ramps up fast :p Camping in the corner seemed to work a treat, haha. Then a mad dash to the hatch.

Dec 13, 2016 @ 1:56pm

The game has a nice feeling, nicely done.

Dec 13, 2016 @ 2:00pm

It's a good game. It's hard to aim and I could not choose another difficulty beside the hardest one, doesnt seem to have an ending, I understand if it's a sandbox type but when you die it should say how many robots you killed. I liked the chicken art on the difficulty menu(Graphics in general were good). You should have posted the chicken art as a screen shot for your game btw. Sound wise I didn't get tired of hearing the song which is good. Mood is your best category here. Humour is non existant. As for the theme category it does take place in one room which is better than most peoples games.

was the menu for another game? anyway, the controls could do a little more work and the FOV is way too low. but overall, pretty nice idea.

Dec 13, 2016 @ 5:11pm

Obviously would be better with options like inverting mouse and sensitivity - turning was a bit slow for my tastes. Concept is interesting, audio and graphics are neat (although the gun could use with some texturing - on my display it blends into the floor too much). I like the lobbing of the weapon. A good start. :)

Good work ! I wasnt able to play anything easier than the "hard mode" which is actually really hard IMO. Would've loved some score printed somewhere so I can compare how bad I am at this to the other people playing it.

Overall, well done :)

The game was really fun to play. It did remind of the old school doom games. I almost finished the game but couldn't find the open hatchet. I do hoped that the mouse turning would be a bit faster though. The game play was smooth. The graphics and audio of the game was nice. Overall a fun game to play. Keep it up!

Amazing job for your first LD! Really impressive!
The game was fun, but it was hard to me to get into it, because I found the movement a little bit "floaty" and the aim too slow. :(
You did great, regardless of that. Keep rocking!

It is just kinda too dark to play during a day, you can't see almost anything on the screen.

Also, the rocket launcher had short reach, because of the arc it shoots at; I would understand using physics for rockets, if you wanted to make use of realistic physics. This felt weird, personally (maybe because I'm used to Doom's rocket launcher?).

Other than that, really nice game!

Dec 29, 2016 @ 5:20pm

Fun to play but a bit too punishing imho, you could use some more feedback when an enemy aproaches you or you're next to some spikes.
But for a first game, that's really some good work!
