TECHNO PARTY DEATH BOX!

sounds like one of "those" games huh?

Last LD I made a hard platformer that nobody could beat and this time I promised myself I won't do another hard platformer.

You know what?

I failed.

TECHNO PARTY DEATH BOX is a boss fight simulator, where you fight the scary, spooky TECHNO PARTY DEATH SPIRIT!

This game contains:
-pixels!
-music!
-bosses!
-timer! (wow post your fastest time of beating the boss, if you manage to do that (I[ludum] dare you!))
-more pixels!
-changing colours!
-moving background full of colours! (WOW HOW DID HE DO THAT?!)
-and most importantly... a lot of death!

I'm not too happy with my design, but oh well I spent 2 hours on thinking about what could I make and nothing came to my mind...
"...let's do a hard platformer!" - he said

Such a simple, yet addictive concept. I have a feeling I'll be playing this one trying to beat it long after judging ends.

I actually started to slowly lag more and more. Idk why.
Other than that, it's a cool game.

@CMLSC there's more and more colors happening in the background the longer you play, maybe that's the issue, restarting should help

Only got like 50 hits to the boss but i still enjoyed it. The concept is very cool and I think you should continue working on this. The only problem was that the game started lagging on my computer after playing for a while.

Really addictive! The only problem i found is, i didn't know i could double jump and that i couldn't reset the level on the pause screen, took a while to figure it out!
Really liked the jumping animation.

Very simple, very fun. Very challenging. Got to 25 a few times and gave up.

Very nice.
It's dynamic and addictive.
The horizontal movement is too fast and not necessarily useful in the game.
The music is nice.

@piwicode you need horizontal movement to dodge the attacks coming at you after the first phase :D

I'll start by saying that I beat this, but you might not like how. I really like where you went with this. The tight audio and dodging are cool. The lag issue, however, is very not fixed. Also, the shooting mechanics seem strange and inconsistent, I think the boss should come down a bit more quickly after doing an air pattern, and this could really use an r to restart. I got up to 102 hits the normal way and probably would have won if I'd kept going, but then I found a trick. Apparently pressing down instantly reloads your weapon. Using this I can get 60+ hits before the end of the first phase. The game still isn't a cakewalk if you do this, but it certainly goes much more quickly. I managed to take down the boss in 1 minute exactly. This game may have its flaws, but you still convinced me to spend over an hour figuring out a way to win. Good job.

I only got to 30 and then the raindrops destroyed me. I'm making it my mission in life to beat this game. great job!

I can't really give any good feedback other than the use of non pixel-art for the particle effects. It doesn't detract from the game, I just couldn't find anything wrong with it. =p

@piscythe That's a lot of words! thanks for the feedback, though my best was 87 before he went up for the first time, I don't actually know what you're talking about with the down key :v

I'm never sure if the lag is fixed cause there's no real lag on my pc and I'm just optimizing it not knowing if it works, I've done what I could though.

@onyon I've found that just mashing z gives me a rather sporadic shot pattern, but mashing z and down gives me a rapid-fire attack. My record without doing that was 42 hits before the first up, with 30ish being a more normal amount.

@piscythe sporadic shot pattern happens only if you mash too fast, you can get 5hit on a single jump just by pressing z at the right time

When I saw the colorful walls and saw the monster, I felt excited. When I got hit by the white rectangles about five times quickly I wasn't confident I had mastered timing to survive longer than a few seconds.

This game is super tense and fun!. I've dead a lot of times.

Feel a bit of confusing: Is reset the only thing i can you when being hit? Seems game continue, only yourself disapearred

@resty yeah, there's nothing more, I thought that's obvious if I included "reset" in the controls
I tried autoresetting first but it was buggy and I ran out of time :P

Feels nicely polished for a compo game.

I died a lot, and as such I'd advise making the shoot/respawn buttons the same. Just have some other obvious indicator that the player has reset.

(Y'know, considering the comment you left on my game, I expected something completely different from the music... I like the tense mood yours' creates! ... but I went from thinking I understood you to being a bit puzzled.)

After a few minutes of playing it slows down enough to be beatable :)
Just kidding, I got to about 50 on the first attempt :)
Was fun!
