Well, Mike ran in to problems getting ldjam.com working properly with about 12 hours left in the Compo, so this is the backup plan.
INTRODUCING ESSAY WRITER 5000. MAXIMUM REALISM. You have only 12 hours, REAL TIME GAME PLAY, to write a 500 word essay. (5000 for real scholars).
Sound like just more school? Why would you want to PLAY essay writing? Who came up with this game?!
DOESN'T MATTER. ESSAY WRITER 5000 will be the biggest hit of the year! Don't believe me? TRY IT YOURSELF, FOR FREE.
Game description:
You have to write an essay. You cannot leave the room except to go to the bathroom. A myriad of distractions await... Will you survive the hauntings?
Tips:
-This game is HARD.
-Note: It's a bit unclear in the game, but to stop playing video games you need to type out exactly what it says in the phone message, i.e. "I am not a guy who is bad. I am a man and I do my job." or whatever.
-Click anywhere to check your phone. Check your phone when it lights up for vital information!!!
-Distractions begin at around 50-75 words.
-Always use the spacebar. Doesn't matter if you're screaming SHUT UP or making poetry, spacebar will always be best.
-Try to get rid of distractions as soon as possible before other ones pop up. -Multiple distractions at once are harder to deal with (trust me, it's in the code).
-Remember to go to the bathroom once in awhile or your bladder will explode. Click on the door to do this. (Incomplete feature).

I really loved the intro. I was laughing all the way through it. 5 stars for everything :)
Hilarious. So much audio! Don't think I can finish it either. Couldn't figure out how to stop paying video games. JUST LIKE REAL LIFE.
The voicing and coding in 2-3 letter words only took about 3-4 hours. It's surprising how few 3 letter words there on in English.

I umm, it is not bad but not too fun. I try to say it is lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalallalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalal umm, my bad she do it not me. cat hat bat vet is eye for eye pop yum bum how is.
i typed bob like 150 times, then it got me to try and type some stuff in, then it didnt work, i tried 10 times, including the period, but couldnt finish.
Funny thing is, I just sent in a 500 words essay 1min before deadline ^^
That lalala part made me so mad - in a good way :D
This was hilarious. I don't often laugh at the games I'm playing, but this one did it.
I thought this was really good. Only note is that being able to see what your typing while playing video games would be reallly helpful since it needs to be so exact. You might be thinking you wanted it to be that hard, but the issue is that it is extremely hard to tell if you are even on the right track. At the very least, show the last few keystrokes the player put in so that they don't mistype, or end of hitting a key too softly and wonder if it was put in. All in all this was one of the most innovative games I've played yet! Also I almost cried while laughing at the phone conversation at the beginning about the professor who wanted an essay with words that are less that 3 letters

It was rad as a tad mad dad on a pad.
Didn't find a way to stop playing games. Thx MrEvilGuy for writing it in comments. Enjoyed!
Hahaha this is a really crazy one :) In some way it was really satisfying. lalalalalala :D Modern Art!
Awesome!
Would the girl stop singing if I kept typing "SHUT UP"?
I could easily spend more time playing this one at Armor Games if you went further (like levels with different typing rules).
Congratz!
Thanks for all the comments. Yes, if you keep shouting and typing shut up she will eventually shut up.
Can't finish it, but still a amazing concept. Props for the audio.
Great idea, funny concept, but I am way too lazy to pass this essay.
How many actual words did you record? I spent so much time trying to find how many recorded that I got an F. I seriously thought I had twelve real time hours to write the essay and was taking my time. Also video games made me lose the video game, and that statement makes my head hurt.
The voice acting can make people chuckle. This is the strongest part of the game.
The idea is fun. Somehow time started to go so fast I couldn't finish the essay. Been at the videogames distraction at that moment.
lol didn't quite finish the essay, f**king funny!! great work.
Hilarious entry! The voice acting definitely makes this game and was time well spent! Dr. Sandy gave me an A+. Not bad man! I lost my first attempt because I could not figure out how to get "lalalala" to stop, but just powered through and finished the essay before it started the second time around.
LOL xD the sounds are the best, the audio super fun, I was going crazy xD but it made me laugh a lot, good job.
Had fun. Guy was bad and did not get his due. The sum was too big for god. SFX was fun and tit.
Well this sure is... a game. While I didn't finish it I appreciate the amount of work that i'm sure went into it. The voice overs are just fantastic and the idea of it is just hilarious.
Great entry xD It's a bit too long, but for the amount I played it I really enjoyed it. It's funny, clever, and just a good game. The graphics could use work but I can look past that ;)
oh god I \shate\s you so \smuch\s... This was too close to perfect. Great game.
Mad respect. I was trying to look for the best voiced word. Anything better than cat?
Funny game! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 37 games, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/7ZuTwiufN-U

I'm not going to lie- I don't think I have the mental fortitude to complete this game, although I enjoy what I did play of it. The distractions are on point, and the fact that you managed to voice just about every 2-3 letter word I could think of is impressive.
Definitely the most unique game I've seen so far, great job!
