Super Mage Arena

Here's mine and K-Bups submission! We started out trying to make a hack and slash, but ended up with a flame-throwing mage smurf with rainbow eyes. It just kind of naturally progressed to that point, I promise. I mostly worked on art, shaders, and a little bit of character programming, while K-Bups made a combo system, damage system, and made the AI for the enemies.
We ran short on time sadly, so there is no win state, and the losing state forces you do restart the game. The larger enemies were also meant to be much more threatening, but alas, we could not fix them in time. We'll likely upload a post-compo version to fix those issues. Overall, we both learned a ton, got some practice in Unreal, and had a great time doing it!
WASD or Left Thumbstick for movement
Mouse or Right Thumbstick for camera
Spacebar or A to jump
Left Mouse or Y to attack
Press E or X at the same time as attacking to augment the attack.
Left Shift or Right Shoulder Button to lock-on.

Super cool to see someone taking a crack an an action game in Unreal. It feels weird to say, but I think the third attack in the combo string, the rush forward thing, actually feels good lol. Did you guys do a lot of C++ to get this running or BP? Hope I can get to a point where I can throw together something like this in a weekend. It may be a little jank/busted, but that's p impressive. Nice work.

Hi Xero!
We actually didn't do any C++ at all. I've had the structure in my head for quite awhile but never had enough motivation to make it fully, so it was a pretty quick implementation.

That was a fun game! Loved the air combo! It looked really great, but I wish there was a way to turn off all that text. Turning to a ragdoll when you got hit was pretty hilarious. Great proof of concept!

I tried to install but it failed to install UE4 prerequisites some C++ 2051 or sth...ehh
