TBFTWOR_LD36

by joemid - Jam Entry

So broke- trying to fix.

Super tech demo- some mechanics are starting to work- at this rate- I'll might have a game by LD40.

Click, double-click, mouse wheel, right-click, click-hold, dinosaurs, tech is missing at the mo- win and web missing maybe 4eva. JK check back tomorrow! Will add a post jam vers for mac and win in the coming days-

MADE WITH:

•Visionaire Studio 4.2.5
•Spriter Pro
•Adobe CC

Most character art and sound was created before the comp! Exceptions include the Male T-Rex and a few additional animations. Animations were tweaked at the last minute and might be buggy.

As might be evident; Visionaire does not use collision or physics, if this looks weird- it is not the fault of the program, rather my animation and action timings. Working on it!

KNOWN BUGS AND OPTIMIZATION ISSUES:

•The button hold action is broken- it is conditional based and there is an error in the loop. Will be fixed in the Post Jam version.
•The game fails to preload completely before the first scene, causing slowdown.
•The particle system and some actions may cause slowdown.
•The Male-T-Rex has some random animation bugs, revealing that it was skinned over a previous character. :o
•Interaction with the tree is haphazard at best.
•Various graphical bugs.
•There is no real point- at this point.
•Random spawn and re-spawn system have been removed for this build- will try to include in the PostJam.
•Shaders and Reflections have been disabled for this build. A lighting shader can be turned on with Space and a contrast shader can be toggled on with V and off with C.
•Other keyboard keys might crash the game. Testing.
•Opening the game for the first time? It may hang, for a good moment.
•Controller may rumble if plugged in or activated- yet, there is presently no controller support implemented.
•Full screen on dual monitors? Your mouse might scroll out of the playable area and effect control.

Additional code courtesy of Lee Clarke, a.k.a. AFRLme
Special Thanks to the devs at Visionaire; most of all Simon Scheckel!

Let me know what you think, or if you find anything else!

*EDIT: POST JAM MAC & WIN VERS*

New post jam vers, still doesn't have any real game, but maybe feels a little more like a really short one.

CONTROLS:

Point and Click to WALK/INTERACT
Point and Double-Click to RUN/INTERACT

Mouse Wheel Scroll Up - ZOOM IN and center on Current Character
Mouse Wheel Scroll Down - ZOOM OUT and center on Current Character

Right Click - ROAR

R - Dev Center on Rex

Your cursor will focus the camera on prey and predators.

Thanks so much for waiting and playing! I will try to get a Linux version up, but if not- at least a gameplay video!

This game looks great. It isnt too complicated and is a cool idea that is very appealing. I enjoyed the uniqueness of this game and how creative it was. Overall it was a very great game. 10/10 would play again.

Very good looking Game! Although it is some kind of pointless at the moment (like mentioned in the description) it makes fun to roam the world nonetheless. This is especially the case when the a few streaks of light part the rather dark atmosphere and you can submerge yourself in the atmosphere. Has lots of potential! Keep on!

Sadly I don't own a mac to test this game, and i was so hype from the screen shots too. Just from the screen shots I can see a lot of visual direction and atmosphere, shame i cant experience it.

Thanks for all the great feedback and for being patient- I'll see if I can get a vid up too, especially for Linux folk- and might be able to make a Linux port, but I have not come up with a way to test it on that OS yet!

Some of the characters and similar effects are in my previous entry for LD35, which does have a Win download, but a little different. My personal goal is to combine all the mechanics into a final playable game, but all the pieces haven't fallen into place yet! ;)

Amazing graphics. But the controls are very difficult using just Mac's touchpad. I wish there were more of a gameplay, but the idea is cool. Overall the visuals and sounds are amazing and i'm looking forward to play the updated post jam version.

Sorry, I won't run any games that require administrator privileges. Suggest filing a bug with the Visionaire developers.

Plan to have a gameplay vid link before the end of the week!

@Lonely Vertex - Built with a touchpad, but might be easier with mouse? Still working on it- Anything specific that could improve? Thanks!

@Dietrich Epp - Sorry, not a bug- I can't get a certified vers at the moment. But, I hear you. Thanks for the feedback and I'll post here as soon as I can get it signed.

@kazoo - totally intentional!

@scriptorum - thanks for the heads up- I'll see what I can do and will post back here. I have a sneaky feeling it might have to do with El Capitan? No sure-

Thanks again to everyone for the great feedback.

Post Jam vers are up- lemme know if there are any issues!

RIPPorkins says ...
Sep 1, 2016 @ 5:50am

The graphics and the sound are very ominous! Doesn't play that well on a trackpad since the game kept thinking I was trying to zoom in. Also didn't really figure out what to do besides kill critters. Looked cool though!

joemid says ...
Sep 1, 2016 @ 6:04am

@RIPPorkins - Actually, that might not be the trackpad- was intended to be a feature, not a bug ;) The cam shifts focus onto each character that the cursor passes through. Still needs some work or maybe to be removed all together, as it sounds like it is confusing. Thanks so much for the feedback!

Mini Submission FAQ

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Many solo participants enter the Jam.

If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.

CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.

CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
