Fire Setting

by Ieyfo - Competition Entry

Hello, first thank you for checking out the game :D. Next this is a game about timing and strategy. The idea behind this game is simple but executing the task isn't. You have acquired the ancient skill of Fire setting where you light a fire in a cave to heat it up then throw water on it to break the rock and get the gems. I have altered it just a bit by taking out the water part and making is so you have to click the gems as the come off the rock. You can then sell the gems for money. Your goal is to get 2.5 million in cash to win the game but wait there are 2 things in your way. cave ins and gem chances. The longer the fire is on the higher the chance for a cave in but the better chance for more valuable gems. You have to ways to combat this, one turn off the fire overtime the chance will go down, the chance for a more valuable gem will too. You can also spend 10k to automatically take away 5% from the current chance of a cave in.

Is the reward great enough you will have to find out.

***Note: If you exit the game you have to start over just to make it a bit harder.***

Game Play from start to finish is about 12 minutes.

For whatever reason the executable makes you run it as Administrator? Not too keen on that. But good entry nonetheless!

Loved the music! Gameplay itself is indeed a mindless clicker, which is not usually my style, but I did like it.

@fitret but the question is did you win ;)

only 1 person has so far and shown proof.

there is a certain way to show proof at the end.

I tried it a while ago and quit. Now, as I finished my game, I decided to just win it, and so I did. It is quite easy once you get the hang of it and get past the hard part at the start. I liked the music, good job on making it in time! Also, I didn't find the way to get any of the gems. Is there a way to get them?

It is one of the games where the main challenge is just finding out how to win, which I like.

...Sighs @BoltKey you click them as they fall if you didn't know how to do that then there is no way you won.

You make money from selling them.

Also there is a thing when you win so ik you won, and i don't see it ;) Thanks for playing! Read the How TO.

@Ieyfo I meant the gems which were ruby, diamond and... that third one. Listed at the top of the material list. Sorry for not being clear. The others were mostly metals, which I of course collected and sold. I had the gem chance on 64 max. I tried to follow the tip to "click fire" but that didn't seem to have any special effect.

Oh no that is for players who don't read the how to play cause thats the way you get started. If you max was 64 then you would get the first 6 starting from the bottom, for every 10 you unlock a new gem. Just avoid caves and you will be fine about how long did it take to beat. @BoltKey

To be honest, the probability of loosing immediately gave me the feeling that I was playing a gambling game. A lot of the systems feels like it was left to luck.

That said, I did like the exponential money growth. It was satisfying to make the score go up really fast with just a few clicks. Cool stuff, nice experiment.

Liked the way you played with the player and how much they want to push their luck before turning off the fire. I had quite a few cave ins before playing a bit safer. Was able to get to 1.9m before a cave in and giving up. Nice first entry.

Mini Submission FAQ

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Many solo participants enter the Jam.

If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.

CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.

CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
