Shape of Fear

by Khaoz_Fang - Jam Entry

This game is a part of another my game.

Blobs are all around you, and they form horrible creatures.Fight back when they appears and scares you!

This game is not very complete, and there is only 3 kinds of enemies, because there is too much coding work, and I spent too much time on bugs.

It is currently infinite, and the life and energy is infinite too( as it is really too difficult )

May need d3dx and msvc runtime lib.

control:

WSAD - Move your cam( or your crosshair to dodge attacks when in bullet time )

J - Bullet Time! ( Slow down time, catch and dodge attacks )

K - Punch them hard when in bullet time( must in their 'face' when they attack you )

The bullet time costs energy( it is currently infinite ), and if you kill an enemy or give them 4 punch, the bullet time will end and return the energy.

tips:

Spore : Use bullet time when you see them flying to you

Skull : Use bullet time when you see flash

Spider : Just focus on its action

==============================================================

Update 2016/5/4:
--Phase 1/5 completed. Try to eliminate all slimes to complete the game.
--Behavior of spores modified.
--Visual effect updated.
--Repeat again: The bullet time is to transform enemies' attack into forms that can be dodged, so you need to capture the moment of hit. When you do it correctly you should see a purple thing like a rune, and just hit it. I really don't know how to make a tutorial for this game. Maybe in a full game there will be a Level0 or something, but now I don't know how to do without spoiling the atmosphere.

说实话,没玩明白,我不确定那个准星是表示“我”吗?当k fight back后,我看不到任何视觉反馈

Very nice graphics, the blobs sure give me the creeps!

The voice acting is ok, but you should try editing them in an audio editor (such as audacity) for smoother clips.

Good job!

The game is very hard to understand, even with the tutorial :( Yes, I can activate the bullet time at the right moment, but the... thing immediately shoots and switches it off. Nice take on the horror/suspension part, though! When finished, this could be quite a boss battle!

I like the art style and the bullet time effects were actually pretty cool but I have no idea what I'm actually meant to do in this game (I think it's some sort of boss battle but I don't know).

Hi everyone. Thanks for playing my game.
I'm sorry that it is incomplete, and there is no time for a tuutouial, because I used my own engine, and I took much more time on bugs than I expected. The concept of bullet time( which has a formal name called Horror Reflex )is from another game of mine in progress. It changes enemies' attack to forms that you can dodge( such as bullets ). I uploaded an gif to show how it works, because it's really hard to understand without a good tutorial.

I looks really cool, but I couldn't really judge if my actions had any effect. Maybe you could make the effects of your actions a bit more obvious to the player.

Atmosphere and graphics is good!

I don't know what I can do with "K" key. I keep pressing it but nothing seems to be happen.

The enemies are too ambiguous in same color thing.

Good one, innovative! However, if you want to improve it you could implement some in-game feedback when you attack or hit an enemy, so the player knows if the shot has had any effect.

The game looks nice but I had no idea what was going on. I'm not sure what the enemies are or what I'm supposed to do. I couldn't even tell if what I was doing was right or wrong (there was no feedback).
I still think that the graphics/visuals are nice so this thing showed promise!

awwwwhhh! the sound effect is too scary! but Great atomosphere. i could know that is a big spider chasing me!at first i think the bullet time can transmit me to a far distance, because the attack feedback is alittle bit weak..... but it seems like that i should to attack these blood cells to broken the big shape?
also, sometimes there apeears some new symbols, but it is too fast, always can not react quickly ToT....
hope more solid update,

Mini Submission FAQ

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.

If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.

CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.

CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
