Ability Hunter

by avenkat - Jam Entry

Hi I am Ajay and I am a 13 year old game developer,
I created a game called Ability Hunter were you kill enemies and steal their abilities such as flying which will give you wings. etc.
Tell me if I forgot to say something.
Sorry I couldn't add source code because it was CRAZY big.
To make this game I used :

Blender - 3D Modeling
Unity3D - Game Creation
Photoshop - Logos
Internet - Sounds

While you play my game please consider :
-This is my first time in Ludum Dare.
-I am 13 years old and have very little experience.
-I am not good at 3D modelling.
-I did not have enough time to fix ALL the bugs.
-I had a learning curve that delayed a lot of my work processes.

This is a brief overview of the game -

You spawn in a maze where you find several enemies, your objective is to kill them with you abilities and your gun, once you kill an enemy a little menu will open allowing you to steal the enemies ability and you can use the ability to kill more enemies. You have to try kill all THREATS and if done then you will proceed to the next round, the aim is to get the highest possible round and challenge your friends, make sure to comment what round you got up too. There are around 13 different abilities you can experiment with. This is also a FPS game and took alot of time to make the basic stuff.

These are the instructions :

1 - When you spawn you will be still for 3 Seconds DO NOT PANIC!
2 - You have FIVE abilities which you can see on the left hand side, you will also see the key/mouse button to use the ability!
3 - You can see the health bar below, make sure it doesn't run out or you will die!
4 - Also keep looking at your AMMO if you run out you will die.
5 - The objective is to see how many rounds you can get all together.
6 - You kill an enemy by putting the cross hair on the enemy and shooting, you will have to be at a certain range to shoot.
7 - Together you have 3 Special ability slots each can hold one ability and once you use it will disappear.
8 - When you kill an enemy 5 buttons will appear at the bottom, you can pick ONE of the enemies abilities and it will implement it into yours, this is how you will get new guns, abilities and flying powers!
9 - Some abilities need you to be in a certain range, always make sure to read your Personal Log which will instruct or inform you.
10 - Remember that you get the abilities from the enemies therefore the enemies can use abilities on you too such as draining YOUR abilities.
11 - Roam around the map until the THREATS have become 0 then you will progress to the next round.
12 - Make sure to experiment with all abilities.

Tips :

Make sure you memorize the map in order to know where the health packs are and the spawning positions of the enemy, the game will be a bit hard at first but will get easier. Make sure you click really fast to kill them.

(This game is not tested on Linux so if you find any bugs make sure to comment it.)

Haha I was 13 when I started using Unity too so don't even worry. This is better than what I made at that time though. This is actually fun! So many enemies but the map is like a maze and its easy to get lost. I would have added the option to change mouse sensitivity (or at least make it lower ; it was way to crazy turning around). The idea is really cool, good job man!

Hi! It is good, but you have to work on game parameters. Die to fast, cant survive even 1 map. Do it, again and again. More flexibility and it can be good game! You have to work on it just some :P

The sense of scale was strange, felt like an insect :) The game is difficult, didn't find ammos, and you have to kill that first ennemy FAST. Liked you wings model.

Mini Submission FAQ

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.

If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.

CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.

CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
