Bug life

by mramaizng - Jam Entry

A simple escape game. Move left and right (A/D) to get to the green grass.

The little character was found online via google. I will upload the source to github. The bad textures are mine.

Its really good, controlls are easy to learn, and I like the idea of sliding.

Sadly, there are only 3 levels :(

Aug 24, 2015 @ 12:16am

Fun! I like the idea of having to escape from the cage. I'd like to see more complex levels playing with the mechanic.

Nice game, but way tooo short...
I just understood the controls, and than it was over...

The controls felt good and the monster looked solid.

More levels!

Aug 24, 2015 @ 1:01am

I really like this. Awesome idea and good gameplay.
With lots more levels, better graphics and gameplay this would make a pretty good (big)game.

Aug 24, 2015 @ 1:05am

Neat! If only there were more levels - or score, or something to try and achieve!

Aug 24, 2015 @ 1:06am

Pretty cool, I wanted more levels, maybe other obstacles!

RadioLemon says ...
Aug 24, 2015 @ 1:06am

Fun to play, but it is too short for how much fun it was.

Aug 24, 2015 @ 1:10am

I love the idea! Make some more levels for this!!

Aug 24, 2015 @ 1:11am

The controls were sooo satisfying! Especially the animation of the bug when you moved!

But needs way more levels!

Simple. Did it's job. Mechanics felt great. Not a bad minute of my life. ^^

Aug 24, 2015 @ 1:14am

That was a pretty nice game! The controls felt very nice and made things quite fun. :)

Aug 24, 2015 @ 1:15am

Hey man great job! I like the physics and the level design. The game flows really well. Good entry :)

dpulrich says ...
Aug 24, 2015 @ 1:24am

This is a really neat idea! The game itself is very nice and the controls feel responsive, but it'd be better with some sound. Next time, you should download SFXR and use that to randomly generate some sounds (such as a happy ring for beating a level, or a quiet thud when you hit a wall). And of course, it'd be great if there were more levels. Nice job!

NexusBreaker says ...
Aug 24, 2015 @ 1:37am

I like the way how to control ^^
and the camera is really smooth
but a littlebit short

Aug 24, 2015 @ 1:38am

Good, concept and the sliding is fun. I think this would make a nice game if fleshed out more. :)

Aug 24, 2015 @ 1:38am

Great concept, but obviously missing some levels and it's a little bland. But great idea! Fits the theme nicely as well.

Aug 24, 2015 @ 1:45am

I really liked it. The game-play definitely made up for the initial impression. Wish it had more levels, but the few levels were really fun.

Aug 24, 2015 @ 1:47am

Fun while it lasted! If only my guy wasn't phasing through the walls, I could see potential in a game like this where it touched up in the assets and audios! Good job!

Arcadonauts says ...
Aug 24, 2015 @ 1:47am

This feels like a really solid tutorial for a good game. Now that the compo is over, you should consider expanding it to a full game.

Aug 24, 2015 @ 1:47am

Fun physics! Definitely has promise.

Super fun in such a short time. Love the feel and speed of it.

Aug 24, 2015 @ 1:52am

Interesting concept! The first time I played, I went off the screen and had to reload. Once I figured out you were supposed to hit the ground, I was good to go. I was a bit disappointed that there weren't more levels, but what is there is fun.

DarkCart says ...
Aug 24, 2015 @ 1:55am

That was fun, despite being short. Good job!

Aug 24, 2015 @ 2:01am

Was fun but the levels were too easy and quick

panda says ...
Aug 24, 2015 @ 2:01am

Excellent idea, I love it! And the snarky text is the perfect blend of humor and tutorial. When I left the game sit for a bit while I was doing something else, it appears my bug sunk through the floor.

jaegerpicker says ...
Aug 24, 2015 @ 2:03am

It's cool, neat little sliding ramp platformer. I like it!

Ybalrid says ...
Aug 24, 2015 @ 2:05am

It's fun but short :/

I like the idea of the ramps. There is a "Sonic the Hedgehog" kind of fee with them

Aug 24, 2015 @ 2:06am

Nice idea! and the controls feels nice

tsjost says ...
Aug 24, 2015 @ 2:13am

Interesting and fun concept, very sad to see that it's so short.

* Text disappears /way/ too quickly, grammatical errors doesn't help
* I was able to jump outside the green floor and start falling forever

mrjorts says ...
Aug 24, 2015 @ 2:25am

Fun! Controls well. The slidy momentum idea is good, but there aren't enough levels to really get the feel for it.

Resonious says ...
Aug 24, 2015 @ 2:37am

This is actually a pretty cool puzzle game. A more fleshed out version of this could be super interesting.

Aug 24, 2015 @ 4:24am

Definitely interesting.

Just wish more levels!

Good job!

Aug 24, 2015 @ 4:30am

Pretty fun mechanics, would be cool if there were more levels and interactions, maybe spikes and elevators?

On level 2 I was able to jump over the entire grass area and fall forever :P

Aug 24, 2015 @ 5:01am

Neat game! Controls are easy, but left me wanting more levels.

Seth Paxton says ...
Aug 24, 2015 @ 8:19am

Nicely done, enjoyable and entertaining. Adding difficulty and maybe some wall jumping would make this a cool platformer in the future.

Aug 24, 2015 @ 9:05am

You should make a mechanic which makes players want to play more- like a scoreboard!

Aug 24, 2015 @ 9:08am

first of all, I love the physics! Really nice job there, the sens of speed and momentum is relly nice. I also like the feel of GFX alot as well. Would be great if the camera panned in the direction you are moving so you can see more.

wavegunner232 says ...
Aug 24, 2015 @ 5:05pm

controls are amazing. the art is fine. It is short but its a ludum dare game so i can understand why. my biggest problem with the game is how easy it is. once you understand the controls it gets pretty easy and as i have already said it is very short. All in all it is a very very good ludum dare game 9/10

Aug 24, 2015 @ 5:47pm

Nice work!

Aug 24, 2015 @ 9:20pm

Cool monster game! I like how you took use of the movements in such an innovative way! Is there another ending than "The monster never wins", or is that the real end?

Mini Submission FAQ

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.

If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.

CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.

CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
