Great job! I loved the explosion and particle effects, and it ran very smooth!

Wow, very cool! I killed 109 people. Not sure if that's good or not. I liked the take on the classic snake game. The sound effects got a little tiring, but other than that I have nothing bad to say. Well done.

Great idea, it was very fun to play. One thing thought is eventually I went off the screen and couldn't see the snake but kept killing people and couldn't get it back.

Aug 24, 2015 @ 2:03am

Great game. Is the number of humans killed supposed to be part of the score, or is it just there for show?

Aug 24, 2015 @ 2:06am

it was good with very nice art but lacked kind of gets repetitive due to how long it takes to ramp up in difficulty

I like it, A lot!
The graphism are great, that's the kind of pixels I want to see; its fun.

It's not "super original" but it's really really cool :D

Controls are great. Graphics are great. Challenge progression is kind of slow. I need reason to eat more humans.

Aug 24, 2015 @ 2:14am

110 Killed - Satisfying! Loved the blood, cool colour pallet!

The sounds were pretty great too - the music really set the mood. Good stuff!

Doug: "Hey Jane, lets go play in the field where the bombs are dropping!"
Jane: "Yeah Doug! Heard there's a giant eye worm thing, that would be great to check out!"

Yummy. That was a lot of fun, very responsive. Lots of feedback. Should put it up for Audio, the Audio is good. Would be better with music. Mood / Humor not so much.

I like the explosions.

Aug 24, 2015 @ 2:16am

Nice stuff. It felt a little like I was more at the whim of the RNG than my skill, not sure. Some variety in scream sound would be *very* appreciated.

(I think FreeSound samples might be technically outside of compo remit, but *shrug*)

This game is amazing! Fantastic atmosphere! Very engaging!

I love how you've managed to create a really creepy vibe with such simple graphics and audio. The background ambient sound is really well done.

It's also a nice touch that you can lose segments of your body in the blasts.

I did find the targeting reticules started to blend together with the blood pools, making it hard to tell them apart, but maybe that was the idea.

Also, technically, the game ran really smoothly, and difficulty curve was just right.

Great entry.

Aug 24, 2015 @ 3:33am

Solid game. Well done. Didn't realize that going off map wrapped you back around to the other side.

Aug 24, 2015 @ 4:12am

If the snake from the classic snake game had a baby with the Eater of Worlds from Terraria you would get this game. Simple but bloody satisfying!

Aug 24, 2015 @ 4:57am

I really like the health of the monster being shown as the segments. It has the side effect of making the game a tiny bit easier as you die :) Great job! My only criticism would be to start the game with a keypress rather than a mouse click since the gameplay is only key presses.

Aug 24, 2015 @ 5:37am

Very cool. There are times when I thought I was in the clear with the blasts, but I got hit. Maybe if I ate enough people, i can grow not only longer but fatter :)

Aug 24, 2015 @ 8:21am

Really like the "snake" style gameplay. The graphics are nice and I did not encounter any control issues. Something that i would like to see is the ability to regain "bodies", maybe every 20 kills or so.

This is really well made. As someone else has mentioned the human sounds can get a bit repetitive after a while but the graphics are consistent and the gameplay is fun. The laser coming in to pump up difficulty was a great touch. Overall great game!

fun game, two suggestions. 1. prevent looping back over yourself similar to snake 2. loop the player around with screen wrapping or prevent the player from leaving the screen.

Aug 24, 2015 @ 5:20pm

Fun arcade title! But good lords my eyes hurt after so many camera shakes.

Looks really good! and plays nice. It gets really easier as you loose body parts, and the targets are really hard to spot after the bloodbath. Good entry overall :)

Surprisingly fun twist on the classic snake type game. Once there gets to be a lot of blood splatter and explosions, things really get chaotic. My favorite thing about this game was that it had so much juice-- little animations, screenshakes, and a zillion sprites on screen all at once. The game felt really balanced too. Nice job! My score: 83

evandaley says ...
Aug 24, 2015 @ 9:02pm

Nice job! Good idea, and good implementation. As you progress past 50ish kills the game gets too "jarring". The explosions and lasers look really nice on their own but I think the camera shaking and brightness should be toned down when there are so many on the screen. Really nice though. I like the graphics for the snake/eye.

Aug 24, 2015 @ 9:22pm

Really a "You are the monster" themed game! Nice work, though made me feel quite like a evil monster at the end when I noticed I was competing with the bombs to kill humans! Nice gameplay and fun game!

Fun and addictive. Though the monster can go outside the boundary of the screen which I guess it's not intended, you can get easily lost in there and never come back. Love the laser beam and hectic pace

Aug 26, 2015 @ 2:22am

The fact that the blasts kill more people than you do is a genious touch

THEY'RE the true monsters!

Aug 26, 2015 @ 4:45am

great game, good idea representing health as part of the monster. 249 killed

Aug 26, 2015 @ 11:58pm

This is really fun. The ramp up in difficulty seems about right for a highscore game like this, and the controls feel really good. The people sprites are also great, along with the explosion animations.

Solid game execution. Gfx, sound, mechanics, and theme come together well. I particularly liked the difficulty variances: more blood makes targets harder to spot and shorter snake makes it easier to dodge blasts. I did find the addition of the side laser too sudden the first time.

6DownStudios says ...
Sep 6, 2015 @ 3:03am

Even the most efficient monster could never cause as much damage as those that would destroy it by any means necessary.

Solid metaphor for a solid entry. Gameplay is fun, and the elegance of theme and design is mirrored by the art style which, despite the limited palette and contrasting colors, is quite cohesive. Subtle graphical effects like the sprite variation, shadows, particles, and the bobbing of the monster pieces really bring the whole thing together.

Forgoing any narrative details and letting the art tell the story was the right choice. The premise poses the questions: Where are we? Who are the people? The crosshairs arrive on the scene before the people do...Why are they hunting the creature before it has any confirmed meals? Who's the *real* monster?
I don't know whether the monster's hue was a thematic or artistic choice, but it's exactly what I would have picked, and here's why: The green shades of the background imply grass, and the semi-chaotic nature of the pattern suggest a wilderness setting, as opposed to a metropolitan one (say, a park).
The green monster seems more at home in this environment than the blue people...Who's doing the intruding? Indeed, the starkest contrast of all is in the bright reds and whites of the unrelenting barrage, shaking the earth, scorching the ground, and spilling the blood of man (and woman). The haunting drone punctuates the explosions and emphasizes the screams of the dying.
To sum up, you hit the nail on the head for Theme and Mood. Kudos.

Man... by the end I wasn't even the worst monster... Humans are just too good at killing them selves. I got a score of 207/442.

Nice little snake-y game. :)
Graphics were really nice, but all the blood splatters made seeing the targets on the floor quite difficult, after a while...
The audio was great at setting the mood!

Mini Submission FAQ

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.

If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.

CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.

CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
