This, my friends, is the story of the Memory Dragon. This old legend started in a distant part of the world, in a age where only powerful beasts ruled the world. Of those monsters one was remarked, the Memory Dragon. The only beast in this far kingdom, with 5 heads and such powers making him able to destroy the world itself. The people unleashed upon this beast a curse, thus being able to devour only 1 kind of element at a time. So, my friends will you be able to help the memory monster in his endless road to unlimited power?
Remember, you can only eat the same colour bird with the same coloured head of the dragon!
Instructions
Q - Upper-most head
W - Upper Head
E - Middle Head
R - Lower Head
T - Lower-most Head
P.S this is my first Ludum Dare and it was very fun. I will share some key fun memories along the way:
Took me 10 hours to draw the graphics,
Took me another 10 hours to solve the matching colour - colour system,
Took me 4-5 hours to make the music and sounds ( i will have the audios projects available for some funny recored dragon/squash sounds)
Tools i used: Stencyl / LMMS Audacity / Adobe Illustrator.
All together , it was great fun to test my limits. See you next time.

It's ridiculously difficult. Maybe having just 3 heads to start with would be easier. Also the lack of visual feedback makes it difficult to understand the rules.
Great graphics.
Really nice game. Only difficult to play with one hand. Maybe you should place the last dragon on a thumb-friendlier key. ;)
Thanks for the feedback guys. I took the gameplay with my way of playing it and I'm used to 1 hand coordination due to 7 years of piano.
I play the game in the 2 ways:
1 Hand: Q W E R T , since i played piano or the other way
2 Hands: Q W E on the left hand , R T on the right hand.
This one is pretty solid. The graphics look beautiful. The gameplay is simple, yet engaging.
Nice and polished game, although randomising dragons is a bit too much for me :)
Beautiful game but I have an azerty keyboard so it's complicated...
Well done for the music and art!!
Nice Graphics and Nice Music. But for AZERTY keyboard it is too complicated. And for your first entry is awesome ! Good Job
Great graphics, very intuitive and fun to play. Fitting Audio and mood.
The only things that bothered me a bit are the dragons switching position so slowly and the fact that the bird further to the right is killed before the one further to the left if they have the same color.
Highscore: 43 after 5 minutes of playing - is that good?
Overall a very nice entry.
The art style is really cool. You could incorporate control configuration, allowing players to pick keys which feel right for them.
Thanks for the comments once more. Didn't think of the azerty keyboard. My initial thought was to use 1 2 3 4 5. But then i changed to Q W E R T.
I will change some stuff. I always thought of the further bird as a penalty for not killing the first. But that makes the game even more difficult.
Anyways after playing my own game, my eye-hand coordination improved:))
I like the idea and the controls. Then animation when changing the dragon colors could be slightly faster I think. Well done!
Ooo I like this. One minor gripe though is when there is more than one bird of the same colour on the screen it often kills off the back bird first, but this is a minor thing on such a good game.
I like the look and style of the game, it’s the kind of thing I could see me playing on my phone.
Awesome graphics and very fitting music.
A bit weird to get the controls into my end, but after some time i got it. Really nice entry!
Graphics are amazing, I particularly like the background! The music is fitting too. The gameplay idea is unique, but I think it's a bit hard to get into with 5 dragons getting randomised right from the start. Overall, very nice! :)
The yay:
- graphics + audio = mood
- interesting mechanics; randomized heads make for a good layer of challenge
- includes penalty for needlessly poking dragon head (quite often I've seen games where button mashing was the way to go; thankfully, it's not one of these)
The nay:
- heads eat the furthermost matching birds first, which makes it easier for others to slip by
- no clear feedback when you poke the wrong head
- could use some keyboard configuration, maybe...?
Pretty solid entry overall!
The mechanic is really confusing to me, but I think I was beginning to understand what I was doing. Nice graphics!
Really hard at the beginning! And the keys choice can be improved.
Good looking anyway.
Loved the art style on this one, I think its the best I've seen so far. Nice and simple gameplay, but can definitely be tricky. I enjoyed it a lot though, I feel like it's one that I might come back and play at some point.
Very nice graphics! Definitely a challenge, tempted to just turn my keyboard :P
Difficult, and a bit buggy. I would recommend that only the closest bird gets eaten. Also, I would recommend that the heads only swap positions when there are no birds, and the birds come faster. Think of it a bit like a bird-eating guitar hero.
I also noticed that some birds weren't on screen when they got eaten, which was confusing. (e.g. I try to eat the red bird right next to me, and some other bird gets eaten.)
Those are just a few ideas that I had, I don't know if they would help or not, but there you go.
Overall, fun to play, great graphics, and very peaceful. Well done!
Oh, and welcome to Ludum Dare! Always great to see a fresh face around! =)
Fun gameplay concept, nice graphics and audio, solid game.
Oh, and one thing - when there're two birds of the same color on the screen, I think the first one to get obliterated should be the one closer to the dragon heads (or both at the same time, though that'd make it easier), but not the farther one.
Spectacular. Absolutely amazing atmosphere and fluid animation.
Really good graphics, and while the gameplay was a bit simple, it's a great entry for your first time.
great aesthetic and music! the gameplay is pretty unique, well done!
Very nice graphics and musics - A bit weird to get the controls into my end. thank you for this entry ++
Yup, the art is indeed impressive :)
And the gameplay is smooth.
For a simple game, that's a good job.
Cheers,
Morco (Los Pixelados team)
Awesome graphics and music, but this QWERT stuff was kinda difficult for me though. Anyway - it catches attention, and that's cool!
Looks beautiful, and the music was very relaxing.
I personally would have preferred, faster enemies, with less dragons, but I guess that's because I'm not coordinated enough.
It was also odd how the further bird dies and not the nearer. To the player, it can feel like the controls are less responsive, since we haven't seen the other bird yet =)
The best I got was 42, lots of fun!
Nice graphics! Some more animations would be great, like fireballs hitting the birds and a faster switch of the dragons would be nice to. Really relaxing atmosphere with a nice gameplay. Thank you for your entry!
It's an interesting idea, but it's incredibly difficult to memorize which colors correspond with which keys, at least for me.
The graphics was quite nice, and after some sessions understanding the rules, i did some 40 score ! :D
Is it good ? xD
first thing first I love dragons(duh). second it is a fun game to play. it is hard in the beginning but if you know your way with the controls QWERT without the Y then you can get a good highscore. also i would suggest that you port this game to the moblie.
I love the art and really like the 5-key gameplay. Very different. I would definitely look into showing more what happens when the key is pressed, like maybe a fireball of the matching color shoots the bird or something. Well done.
I got to 37 and it became unresponsive. The green dragon was in the middle and E was not killing the green birds. Maybe has a soft reset whenever the dragons switch in case of this bug.
I really love how mellow the game is. I would really like to see this on mobile where you tap the dragons instead of QWERT. I think it would do very well. Hit me up on the forums if you would like to work on a mobile version together.
Yay! I liked this game! At first I didn't understand how it works but its a good gameplay! Nice music and graphics, well done!
Totally dig the Asian theme for the game. Graphics are fantastic and the gameplay is simple.
Graphics were killer! Wish the dragons came out to eat the birds, music was fitting also, great job for your first dare!
Interesting idea, sort of like a completely randomized Guitar Hero. It's pretty fun, but a little too challenging for the beginning player. I would suggest either starting with fewer heads or not switching them out as often towards the beginning. The graphics are great. 4/5
Very nice game there raducumiczzz. It was a little difficult to understand exactly what I should've been doing but after a couple tries I was able to get the hang of it. I thought this game had some beautiful art assets, which were just stunning to look at. :)
Controls definitely need to be remapped. Also, it would be nice to have the dragons actually move out to get the birds. The visuals are nice and once you get the hang of it it is fun.
Graphics and music are very nice, gameplay is simple but enjoyable. Excellent work.
nice game, a bit hard to mentally map the keys to the dragons, but well done otherwise!
nice moody musically graphically appealing game. Kinda simple in concept and gameplay. It started getting harder later and that's when i became more interested in what was going on. :-) I'm one of a lot of comments.
Nice relaxing music & audio and a bit of a quirky gameplay concept. I liked this, and also well done for this as a first entry. You should be extremely proud!
It would be so much more satisfactory if the dragons stretched their heads out to eat the birds, Hungry Hungry Hippos style. I also wish you did a more elegant solution for the controls, maybe clicking on the heads?
Otherwise, a good first LD, keep at it!
Nice graphics, very refreshing ! It's a pretty simple gameplay, but quite hard to play actually x) You could add one heart maybe but nice game !
Put some metal under there, and you'll have the perfect LD Guitar Hero with dragons!
Anyway, beautiful art, nice chill music, bird exploding simple fun.
Good job on the graphics and sound, the concept is cool, although I found after a few plays my interest falling off pretty quick, perhaps in a post LD version there could be different modes or other ways to spice it up. The one thing that bugs me is it seems to have nothing whatsoever to do with the theme of 'you are the monster', these are dragons, seems a shame you didn't make them monsters instead and call it 'tales of the memory monster' to stay in the spirit of ludum dare.
No a fan of difficult just for the sake of it, but this is great. And you got to love those mountains
Graphics are beautiful and the idea is interesting. I liked the game atmosphere. This game could be very good with more content! Great submission!
Very nice graphics. It's a little typing game. I love vector art! Well done!
Cool game, liked the idea of dragon heads switching places, adds a twist on standard 'press buttons fast' gameplay.
Whoa that's a nice idea! I really like the graphic style and the gameplay is funny and challenging! Well done!
I love the aesthetics of this game. The graphics are beautiful and the music lovely. Very well done!
Nice design but pretty hard with an AZERTY keyboard :) More chalenging I guess !
Nice graphics! Interesting game, and super fun! At first its a little hard to get the hang of it but then once you learn how to play it its super fun!
Congratulations on your first Ludum Dare entry! When I saw the screenshot, and the name, I thought for sure you were making a Simon game, but I was pleasantly surprised that you made something unique. The mechanic of the changing inputs is actually really cool, and does mess with your head and muscle memory. Additionally, the amount of style you put into the simple concept really makes the entry shine.
The only improvement that comes to mind is that when there are multiple birds of the same color on screen, when you press the corresponding key it removes the birds that's further away rather than the closest one, which is counteractive (as most people will be tracking the more immediate threat and will think the wrong input was put in).
After 5 tries, my best score was a measly 97 points.
Very nice graphics and relaxing music. Aside, the concept is simple but nice, so great game, good job ! :)
wow! nice game! guitar hero with monster plus puzzles i love it!
Audio and art is well match, it's great for boosting mood. Well, gameplay is challenging enough.
I want to give a advice for you to put some visual feedback if player press wrong dragon.
Best score 39, for me it was hard to recognize blue and green color. Nice artstyle. Very nice first entry!
Great start, mate.
The gameplay is innovative and very solid at the same time, the music is nice and the sound effects are working great.
The artwork remembers me of those old classic flash games and looks great.
If you are a pro dev, consider porting to mobile and making millions.
I can't really put my finger on it, but this totally stole my attention. Good job! Graphics and audio was very nice as well.
Best game i've seen so far; GREAT GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice Idea and Graphics, Dont understand why the birds die, maybe better if the dragons shoot fireballs or anything.
That was quite a fun game to play, but i feel it lacked variety somehow. It had beautiful graphics, but could definitely do with more audio.
Graphics and music are nice! But I always press the wrong key...
Nice little game. Not exactly a memory game, more of a paying attention to the current game state game. Definitely opportunities to increase the challenge level (e.g., dragon heads are always tied to the same button, but still change places). I liked this a lot!
Admittedly the 5th button was tricky because I had to bring in my other hand to push that one. Four would have been a perfect fit.
Wow, never would i have thought to get so much feedback. Mobile version will be soon ready and released both iOS and Android!
Thank you everybody. Thanks for all the kind words.
Nice game. The randomization element every so often provides some deeper challenge to the game. Only note I would say is when the dragons reset, maybe give a bit more time on the birds, or don't reset when there are birds so far across the screen already. Other than that, great job!
Nice art, but hard to start learning and having fun. Switching the positions right off the bat is pretty confusing. Adding an animation of the head shooting out and eating the bird would help too.
Wow! Really nice graphics/design! The game itself could use better controls maybe, or an easier learning curve.
I also found it difficult - but games like super hexagon don't present easiness as a choice - so no bad thing. You should place this on the App stores!
Very nice entry, beautiful graphics. I was kinda thrown off by the fact that the bird farther away was killed if more than one of that color was on the screen. Overall great job!
Well put together! Good entry. Good graphics and great audio that fit with the theme. Challenging!
Simple but fun. It reminds me of something like guitar hero where the difficulty spikes when you have to start moving your hand. Scaling up to 5 would help with the learning curve. I really like that the order changes so I can't just build muscle memory. I found the wrong fingers moving all the time... felt very QWOP. Nice work!
Really freakin cool - the heads switching colours like that was a big brain-funker; i was looking left then right left right. Good submission.
This is hard...like...way too hard! You should give us more time to get used to the keys, or even write the keys on the dragons' heads. If they keep changing place, that would be hard enough anyway.
Very innovative game, it was nice to play and the graphics were really good. The audio effects could've been more interesting but still a cool game!
This looks and plays nicely. Very difficult to get used to. The speed increases at a nice pace. I love the animations, and music. Well done, and interesting, challenging mechanic.

Beautiful looking game! The feedback needs to be strengthened to make the game more engaging. Tone down the difficulty a bit for us mortals :) Solid entry for the compo duration!
Looks and sounds great. Felt strange that it destroyed the furthest-away bird first some times, but otherwise played well.
Once you get the hang of it, pretty fun - but 3 lives is a bit overkill, with no way to regenerate them that I could find. Could do with some feedback like maybe the dragons actually eating the birds. Also not very colour blind friendly :(
Terrific art. I didn't find the gameplay terribly appealing.
This game is one from the best I have tried so far, but it could have been better if you let the letters displayed or if we could choose them. I don't play on qwerty so it was really hard to remember which letter was supposed to go where.
The game looks very nice, concept is interesting, it's also fairly relaxing. My only complaint is that the dragon heads move too slow when they reshuffle, otherwise good job!
Really great artstyle over a ridiculously difficult but fun game. Loved it!
Hey, just so you know that I wanted to send you a trophy to your LD profile but it won't let me. Nothing fancy, just a PNG image. Send me a message over twitter so that I can send you an image. :)
Crazy difficult, but I feel like there's a solid concept here if you look at the gameplay elements and refine them. I feel like it would work as a fast paced game, but you'd need to really tighten up visual cues and intuitive controls.
This looks good, and is a nice challenging game :) The colours changing position certainly makes it more difficult, but it's hard to tell at what point the keys actually swap colours; sometimes it seems I can still press the old keys to match the colours.
Really cute graphics, quite the fun game. I included it in part 31 of my Ludum Dare 33 Compilation video series, if you would like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/smH_qgd8pMY

Mini Submission FAQ
TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.
CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.
If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.
CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.
CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.
PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).
MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.
MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.
NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
Very nice graphics. I like to turn my keyboard sideways while playing.
