I, Villain.

by P.T.A - Jam Entry

[PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE PLAYING: a few people were experiencing bugs and couldn't play the game, we've uploaded a new version with the bugs fixed here > https://www.scirra.com/arcade/action-games/i-villain-updated-1993 or click on the "Updated Version" down here. We are keeping the original link here and on scirra arcade because of the contest]

A game about a kid and his robot dog, growing up and becoming a mounstrous villain.

P.T.A's first game, probably full of bugs, we had a lot of problems right before uploading so it may be a mess.

We learned a lot on this jam, despite all the problems.

Good graphics, and nice music! I could play a few minutes but after that the screen of the game turned white and it never worked again =S. Anyways, good job!

I really liked the music and the hand drawn aesthetic :) I loved how his past was all grey and black and white and the color appears after he becomes a villain.

I lol-ed, there were bugs for sure, but I'll tell you, they made the game more enjoyable, not bad for a first entry, keep going :D

Why'd you opt out of humor? I would've rated it high, even if it wasn't intentional

I'm a kid with a dog. Not a monster... sooo why this happened? :D

Aug 26, 2015 @ 9:32pm

Really nice music. I couldn't get over the first obstacle...

Aug 26, 2015 @ 9:34pm

spent a couple of minutes trying to outjump it but didn't manage to do that:)

@fubenalvo the kid with a dog its just the first stage the second one you are a teenager with a bigger dog and the third one you are an adult who fuse youserlf with your mechanic dog turning into a monster, the game is abou the creation of the monster, play the other levels!

I really like the concept of using the dog to attack in the first part. The game didn't make much sense, though, and collision detection was really bad. In general, it was very hard to know what you collided with and what you didn't. Also, fighting enemies was pretty glitchy, and hard to get good hits in, and pretty much impossible to avoid the projectiles.

I don't have the white screen in chrome, was a fun experience. Keep at it! :)

I liked the music, and thought the dog was pretty sweet. I liked the style of the bad guys. I had a hard trouble jumping over the tall block dividers.

The state of this game was too buggy for me to rate. The screen sometimes when black, other times white, and other times I was able to run off the screen and nothing happened. I'll check back later to see if these issues are resolved.

Pretty fun idea. I did however find the second level confusing. I didn't know I was supposed to use the fire breath to break the wall. I kept jumping around trying to get on the roof of the building. Nice tune too!

Bugs are definitely not unexpected, especially for a first-time entry. One suggestion for next time, don't put the dialogue skip button on the button you want players to spam for attack. I skipped the dialogue after the first boss on accident so I missed out on that part. Also, I really liked the soundtrack, it really fit well with the gameplay.

Pretty good game, I loved the idea. The art is pretty interesting, too. I played three times though, and in the three of them I lost the ability to double jump, so i couldn't reach the key and all =(

@duskpn you can't double jump to get the key, it's a small puzzle you supposed to jump and send your dog ^^

Love the art style and transition from mono to colour. Strong character and concept. Didn't like the controls and movement so much.

Good effort for a first game. The bugs held back the fun a bit, I couldn't reliably stop the missiles with my fire breath since it spawned at the dog's feet.

Mini Submission FAQ

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.

If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.

CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.

CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
