*Updated to have working zip file download that includes assets folder*

Hi all. Here is my (unfinished) submission to the Jam this time.

You are a monstrous banana peel that is out to ruin everyone's day. Move about the sidewalk using the arrow keys and try to position yourself underneath the 'feet' of passers-by to slip them over. Get as many people as possible before time runs out :) There are hipsters (brown), busy executives (black), joggers (blue) and soccer mums (pink) to trip over, and each person gives a different number of points.

Thanks for playing!

-----

I originally wanted to enter the compo this time, but a combination of using a game engine I am not familiar with (Unity), choosing to do 3D, not 2D, and having some other commitments this weekend meant that I wasn't able to finish this game. It is in a playable state, however there is not intro splash screen or instructions, and nothing happens when the timer counts down (you have to exit the game using ctrl+alt+delete sorry!).

The banana model and the fire hydrant model were made by me in Blender in the 72 hours. The banana was fully rigged and ready to be animated, but I lost motivation at the end of the time limit. I also made some doors and background models, but removed them from this version. The people's voices were also recorded by me. The background music and banana slip sounds were not though, so I opted out of the 'audio' category.

If I had more time and hadn't lost motivation, I would have liked to add some textures to my 'people' (I originally wanted to have full body models, but walk animations are hard to get right!), as well as making the pavement and sidewalk look much more interesting with more models and stuff in the background and foreground.

Thanks for playing, and I look forwards to your feedback!!!

The download link is only the exe, you need to add the game data folder.

Also tried to download and play, but you forgot to add the game data folder.

Thanks guys! I didn't realise the assets folder was needed :P I've updated the link - it is now a zip folder that should work. Thanks everyone, I look forward to playing your games!

In the beginning of the Dare we were a few people on the IRC that discussed ideas- A similar idea came up, except that it was a splinter that should injure people, rather than a banana peel, so I like the idea :-)

Quick and easy game- I loved the graphics of the banana peel. All in all a decent "time killer" game :-) nice job.

The yay:
- funny premise
- the terrible monstrosity

The nay:
- the gameplay was so fast that I was completely STOMPED at the beginning; or rather, I kinda wasn't
- still don't know what the water hydrant is for
- no restart after end or anything
- despite its name, that banana peel has nothing to do with lizards or other reptiles

Maybe you'll have better luck (and more practice with tools) the next time? ^^"

I like the concept! I think the banana is moving too fast. Good work modeling that in 72h :)

Had thought it was meh at first, but i spent more time playing it than other submissions. I do recommend to have clearer instructions on the description (i did a tl;dr) but i got the hang of it after thinking it was a frogger clone, and noticed i got no points haha I loved the banana peel model, its so GODDAMN HAPPY C:

Good concept! Maybe gameplay would be better with the camera more far away so you can see better your victims...

I love the idea, and am particularly fond of non-obvious theme interpretations like this one. It moved a little too fast for me, but even with that it was still amusing and fun to play.

Haha! That's so evil! Cool idea. I like the audio, well done.
The controls are a mess. The camera is too close to the action, you can't really tell who's going to walk over you.

Mini Submission FAQ

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.

If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.

CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.

CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
