They say that treasure awaits those adventurers brave or foolhardy enough to delve deep underground. But treasure isn't the only thing waiting in those caves. No, there's also fake treasure.
Enter the mimic.
For those who don't know, a mimic is a creature that imitates the appearance and contents of a treasure chest, and when an unwary adventurer tries to open it, he gets a face full o' teeth.
Now you can know that thrill.
All That Glitters puts you in the role of an action mimic. It plays as a sort of stealth game, a la Thief.
You live in a cave. Adventurers can be found throughout the caves, wandering aimlessly or otherwise. Your goal is to sneak up on them and eat them. Problem is, you're full of coins and pretty jangly - so you'll just have to let them come to you.
Controls:
Arrow keys/ASDF - movement
Shift/Spacebar (hold) - imitate a treasure chest
Hints:
- Keep your lid closed. The game will make it clear when you've caught a guy.
- Adventurers wear these helmets that really ruin their peripheral vision.
- If you hear someone shouting 'DIE' that means you should run away.
- There is no big reward at the end. Feel free to stop playing whenever. Unless you're a completionist, in which case you may be here a while.
- More detail on how to catch an adventurer: first, figure out their movement from a distance; second, place yourself in their path without them noticing; third, close your lid and wait for them to show up.
Cheats:
- The 1-6 keys will warp you to various checkpoints. But please note: this is CHEATING and will be a permanent black mark on your gaming soul. Unless you're a gaming satanist or something in which case go wild.
Change Log:
- Fixed a bug where mashing keys could walk you through walls
- Fixed a bug where players would be unable to move
- Fixed a bug where the player disappears ('respawn' bug)
Post-LD version changes:
- Smooth movement by holding directions
- New sound effect when adventurers lose sight of you

What's your setup like? I've tested on most browsers and never gotten a result like that. Maybe it's a plugin interaction?
I'm having the same issue as Stephan, playing on Chrome, Windows 10. Love the idea and the stealth implementation though!
Great game, In-game instructions would have been cool though.
it's a little big buggy when you respawn. There's still a bit time though
The sounds cracked me up. It has been mentioned several times, but there is a bit of a respawn bug. In any case cool idea. Some sort of guidance is needed from the start. But I like it.
Voice acting was perfect.
I also got stuck on some things, I think that it's when I fatfinger two keys are once and go into a wall diagonally, I then get kicked out of it, but can't move. Really excellent entry though.
I got the same bug as above on FF. I think its when you press shift right as you are being killed and then it acts like you are always in box mode for movement.
I like the game, though it took me coming back to the page to figure out what I was actually supposed to be doing
I just don't understand for what use space. Every time I'm caught for these guys with helmet. Anyway, I like the fogs mechanics. Greats for a compo entry dude. +)
Okay... I AM ANNOYED.. I only looked once if someone is coming, and bam someone saw me. So frustrated :P
Still a good game, even tough I am bad at it :(
Maybe I'm bad at reading but I had to read the instructions five times before I figured out how to trap a duder. Maybe an interactive in game tutorial would make showing the mechanics easier? Pretty neat concept and fun once I got it.
Hey guys, I'm not 100% sure I fixed the respawn problem but I've added some safeguards that will hopefully prevent it (also the mashing buttons issue). I think I'm still in time?
Hints have also been updated to give better instructions.
Thanks for playing my game!
I'll admit I didn't read instructions so at first I was very confused. But it's a cute game :)
Good idea. Fits the theme very well. Some parts were harder to figure out than the others, but overall I enjoyed it.
Also, the slurp noise when you eat an adventurer is amazing.
Funny and interesting concept. The chest's eyes makes me laugh. I tried a bunch of times, but still could not sneak up on that adventurer. Not sure why, but I could not hear any sound from the game (I hear sounds from other games though.) I'll check back again later.
Cool game!
Pros:
-Really fun concept
-Fun sounds
Cons:
-Hard to understand at first
-Very difficult
I could see this potentially becoming a full blown game. I love the idea of tricking people into thinking you're something else as your attack, I'm not sure I've ever seen that done in a game
This is my favorite compo game so far! :D It's a wonderfully creative interpretation of the theme, with extremely clever mechanics and fantastic sound (and voice). The graphics are the right kind of cartoony for the feel. You should be proud of this.
Great sound, great concept, lots of fun!
Would be interested to see a non-grid-based version!
pretty buggy, controls aren't very enjoyable...I thought it was really funny and the idea was great, just needs some polishing and it would be excellent!
The controls are a little bit wonky, once taking a full second to register that I closed, and I couldn't really get past the first screen because of that.
Got stuck and dissapeared a couple of time. Funny sounds :) Cool game.
The liked the field of view mechanic and the voice acting was funny. The movement could be a bit faster.
I thought it was weird that the player was shown in a side-ish view but the enemies were fully top down.
I absolutely love this game. Fantastic job of turning a mimic into a stealth game. I especially liked the limiting view that pretending being a chest gives you
I really liked the voice acting, and the game overall is funny.
I found it very satisfying the first time I ate somebody, but later it glitched out and I couldn't move, unfortunately.
Really funny sound effects and quality mechanics. As i didn't read the instructions at first, it seemed harder than it really is, althogh it surely takes time to dominate and it really interested me.
Great game, took me a little while to figure out what to do, but the gameplay was enjoyable. the reduced vision when in chest form made it really tense. I wonder if the soldiers should have a little peripheral vision if you were to develop it further. Great Voice acting and music, and I like that you had variations for the sounds
Nice gamming concept. It's a shame you cant keep input pressed. :)
this game is pretty good. it does not innovate much but it allot of fun to play and has great graphics aesthetic and theme, audio and humor is all pretty good solid 4/5 stars
Very funny and enjoyable, even thought it's a bit simple on the gameplay.
Cool game! The AI of the enemy is perfect. I think I would it to be a little bit easier, but maybe it's just a personal preference. Good job!
Your game is really good but really hard! I had fun trying to avoid the adventurers.
Good job! :D I loved the voice acting. That must have been fun to do :P
Took me almost 5 minutes to understand how to play the game, and once i did, it was actually neat. needs in-game instructions, it's really to hard to get it.
Love the concept and I think it was pretty well executed. I didn't run into any bugs myself. The limited vision with the lid closed was really suspenseful. Om nom nom.
Your game is interesting, great work.
But, like others, a little bug on respawn
Nice! Really enjoyed this one. Could use some difficulty balancing, but challenge is enjoyable.
Theming feels a bit off, as the game wouldn't change much by switching monsters and heroes.
Game's quite fun though, fast paced stealth is a type of gameplay that can be quite fun, and there are not enough games about it in the world.
very innovative. i bet you got your influence from dark souls :D very good sound and grafics also. I really liked this entry. keep up the good work!
Really enjoyed the gameplay, plus the voices really spooked me a bit. Good job!
Very nice ! It made me think of Legend of Grimrock ^_^ Simple but efficient :-) Well done !
I like the idea of just hiding and waiting as a trap, very interesting!
Music is way too quiet in comparison with the sound effects. I didn't even know the game had music until I read a comment about it.
Very easy to get stuck and unable to move by pressing a direction you aren't supposed to be able to move toward. I managed to do it all 3 times I tried to play.
Really cool, innovative concept, with useful and humorous sound.
Really great game idea, well done! I love stealth games and this is definitely a funny original stealth game mechanic. The graphics and the voice work a very funny too so I think this game could quite easily be a little masterpiece with the right polish. Hope you carry it on.
Really cool game, but I think there is a bug with respawing once you get to a certain checkpoint. The only think I would say is that it is REALLY hard to figure out the box rooms (leading indivuals out didn't work)
nice game, i ran into the problem where i lured 2 guys at the same time, which basically killed me because i got spotted, it runs fine, an i liked the voice overs
Uh huh here's a chest *dies*
Although some bug happened when I died like 50 times, I loved the idea and the music. good job :)
Slurp! Neat little stealth mechanic. Respawn was stable for me. Good entry.
Hey all.
I'm still not entirely sure what's causing the movement bug, but I've added an integrity check every second or so that should unstick you when you get stuck. Hopefully :D
Pretty fun to play! I love it when they yell "MONSTER!" haha. I just wish there was more stuff to discover as you explore.
This game is really fun, especially when you hear the joy sound of victims! It also has stealth elements. The game has potentials! Picked by GB!
Amazing chest ahead.
The sound effects are very amusing.
There are too many adventurers... maybe more like 20 would be best, with a steeper difficulty curve. I enjoyed working out different strategies for the crowded rooms.
Loved it. Very cool concept. Really enjoyed the SFX. Coming around some corners right into an enemy was a bit of a bummer but overall great job.
Great idea having the player be a mimic. It's very simple, yet engaging which is perfect for a Ludum Dare. This is a great idea for a full-fledged game. As I was playing I couldn't help but think about all the cool stuff you could add to it. Nice job.
Fun central mechanic, and I like the apperance of the mimic. The line of sight and fog work really well too.
Great game! Improving the controls a little could do wonders, though. :)
Thanks for your comments everyone!
I've put up a post-ld version with smoother controls and some more voices. I think it's an improvement.
Also I may have finally fixed that respawn bug XD
This was a REALLY neat idea! There was a lot of "typical" entries for this theme, but I think this take on it really stands out!
Really neat game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 33 Compilation video series, if you would like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/VOSoNttI06o

Mini Submission FAQ
TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.
CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.
If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.
CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.
CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.
PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).
MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.
MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.
NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
I pressed enter to respawn but I got bugged when I tried to move, now I cant see my character at all(I cant move as well move).
