Boss Stomp!

by MrDave - Compo Entry

You play as the Aztec boss off a game. Use your two hands to crush the computer player!

Press up and down alternatively to swing your arms. Build up momentum to squish the player.

WASD – Left hand
Arrow keys – Right hand
(works on azerty keyboard)

If you download the exe file it should work with a gamepad (only tested on my cheap one) and as you can imagine that is pretty fun.

Collect coins to unlock harder levels.

If you are having problems building up momentum, hold down the W key for about a second before switching to the S for a second. Once you have the rhythm going it is easy to maintain.

Awesome. Great graphics, innovative controls. Nice attention to detail with the brief flashing immunity when the hero gets hit, the clanging of the two fists together, subtle screen shake. The audio fits nicely. And a little humour with the bunny swarm. Great job.

Wow, so fun, looks great.
I think you should wait a second or two to show the level success or failure screen. So we can see the final impact.

Definitely worth playing for the final two levels. They rock.

You should add sound, maybe tighten up the controls a little and publish this one =)

Well done! This is the best game I've played in this event. Good concept. Good graphic. Good sfx. Good everything!

Fun and super innovative. Great graphics, sound was tough to swallow. Only problem was that arrow keys wanted to scroll my web page up and down. Other than that I had big huge fun crushing humans.

Wow, this game is great! It looks and feels very polished, especially with the different levels and everything. The animations of the characters is also very well done. But the best part is of course when you're uncontrollably throwing your both arms around, hahaha.

Aug 24, 2015 @ 11:54am

Ugh so satisfying to swing those arms around (and into eachother). I'd have liked the ability to do extra damage on powerful strikes

Excellent game! On of the best so far!

-Innovative and addictive
-Pretty solid for a 48h game

-Pretty hard to control both arms at the time
-Maybe a 1p & 2p option would be cool

Thanks for all the people that have commented! I couldnt be happier with the replies! \o/

To all the people saying about the sound, I should have recorded things on a mic but at the time I was too shy to, I regret that now

@TiByte + @madjackmcmad Sorry the page scrolls up and down with the Up/Down key, there is not much I can do. If you play it on my website I disable those keys however I cant do that on the LD site.

@voxel While you dont to extra damage with powerful hits you to knock more rings out of the npc so it is still worth doing.

great idea. I've always wanted to kill all cute bunnies...

Aug 24, 2015 @ 7:35pm

This is a really neat idea! The controls are kind of frustrating, so in the end I just sort of mashed button, but things worked anyway.

It definitely plays better on the levels with more enemies, since you can pretty much flail uncontrollably and still squish thing.

Art was nice, too.

The game mechanic is very fun and even though it's hard to control, especially at the beginning, that's partly what makes the game fun. The audio and the graphics help make the game even more hilarious. A lot of levels for a 48 hour game, you should be proud! :)

This was really fun to play!

I found most of the levels easy to complete by pretty much just flailing around, which although it was hilariously fun, wasn't much of a challenge :) (except for the final level, which I can't get close to completing)

The web version has arrow key input that moves the page in addition to the game.

Use this script (paste into the body section of index.html):
window.addEventListener("keydown", function(e) {
// space and arrow keys
if([32, 37, 38, 39, 40].indexOf(e.keyCode) > -1) {
}, false);

Norton also hates the windows version and will not let me play :(

I really liked the graphics, and the game was fun. Had problems with up and down arrow scrolling whole web screen while playing... but that didn't detract from my votes.

Thanks again for all the advice people!

I changed the hosting website so it shouldn’t scroll down the page when you use the arrow keys, I hope that didn’t give too many people a bad experience because I understand it would make the game pretty unplayable like that.

Love this! Very unique idea. I would consider tweaking the controls a bit more, so the unpredictability remains, but maybe a little more movement occurs with the key press. Anyway, great job!

Fun, though a little hard to control for us non-qwerty users. Still, I was able to get surprisingly far with just the right hand.

Really amazing controls - does such a good job of making your arms feel big and heavy by having you press on the keyboard in such long, crushing presses. Loved the way the AI moved - erratic enough to be surprising, but still enough to not feel cheap. Knocking them up in the air was so much fun. Great job!

Fun mechanic, can't just mash buttons. Fun game, nice work.

Sep 1, 2015 @ 2:18pm

Fun idea, liked the whole Aztec boss mechanic with the two big fists. Hard to control both at times but I think that just made it more fun and crazy. Also liked the way the two hands would hit together with impact, was a nice touch. Those poor rabbits... Did find the second special level really difficult though and couldn't beat it.

Mini Submission FAQ

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.

If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.

CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.

CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
