Betty is a little girl who is scared of fire and monsters. It's quite understandable, isn't it? Even though you're one of the monsters yourself...
In Play, you're playing a monster living under a girl's bed. One day, you decide to help her cope with her fears. Playing helps reduce stress and anxiety, so you want to encourage her to play - especially with toys related to firefighting.
However, you're a scary monster without hands and mouth! So don't let her see you (or other monsters) and try to get the toys down from the shelves.
How to play:
Use WASD or arrow keys to move around. Нou can also jump by mashing space. Try to stay hidden - if Betty sees you, her Fear meter grows; when it's full - game's over. Hiding in shadows under the bed or a bookcase is optimal.
You can bump into bookcases to shake toys out. Betty will notice a toy on the floor and play with it - increasing her Courage meter. Increase Courage all the way to full to win the game. Note that toys won't come out until Betty plays with the ones currently on the floor - bump them strategically so that she notices them.
Fire monsters spawn in the shadows and scare Betty. Bump into them and push them back from whence they came. If Betty sees a fire monster it disappears, but not before substantially increasing Fear meter.
To win, you'd have to keep Betty not-scared until she plays with all the toys. Good luck playing!

UPDATE Fixed the bug where endgame sequence won't trigger if you were out of shadows at the time.

Very nice design, I loved it, it inspired me to do a 3d point and click in my sparetime. Cheers!
I love the idea of this game, nice graphics and great feelings, very good work !
One of the best games I have played in terms of mood. Very cute and relaxing. Nice take on the theme too. The difficulty could have ramped up a bit more towards the end and it would have been nice to have a proper ending to the game as well. Other than that good job!
A beautiful game based on a simple but brilliant idea. Well done.
Great graphics, good coding and good design. Feels very polished. Hard to believe that you guys pulled this one off in under 72 hours. Assuming this was no solo project. Good Job!
The game is pretty well crafted and puts the player in the right mood. Pushing the fireguys back into the shadows is pretty challenging. And it's a pretty interesting take on the theme. I like it.
Not bad!,well, the scene could be larger, and with different monsters to feature various child fears (with more game mechanics associated),right now it can get a bit boring too soon, but hey, good job team!
>the scene could be larger, and with different monsters to feature various child fears
Hey, thanks for the comment!
That's what we initially intended to do, but the time was pretty limited so we decided to polish one scene instead.
Looks very charming & colorful.
I thought the difficulty level was fine...; I don't think the game would be improved by higher difficulty.
Good graphics and sound. This was very cute and made me happy to play.
Super cute game. Great use of theme. I included it in part 10 of my Ludum Dare 33 Compilation video series, if you would like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/Jf2dZyQpNFE
This game is relaxing and really different from all the other I tested on this LD at the moment. Good job!
Really nice touch, especially with a good guy monster. Some of the sound effects can be a bit annoying, but otherwise very cute and therapeutic.
Nice graphics, funny sounds, original goal, I really love your game.
Very cute game :) Very good visuals, I think it could become something solid and a cool kids game with a bit more of gameplay.
Very cute, ran out of objects to increase courage, but really enjoyed it
Graphics looks great and gameplay is very interesting. I enjoyed a lot playing this game.
Superb atmosphere and presentation, all the assets are well done and fit together.
I started having some trouble with the camera, it kept shaking around, not sure if it is something wrong on my end I was using the windows version.
The sound is a bit creepy. A bit too "adorable" for me.
Very well done game. And nice how it plays out. I think it was perfectly difficult, that is, not really hard. I think that's about right when it comes to the difficulty of a game like this. All content and how it worked toward the mood, very impressive.
This is very well done and great story and concept. I quite enjoyed this.
I liked the game. kindof similar to my idea but done entirely differently. it's a bit hard to control because you don't move as expected but rotated 45 degrees. otherwise, very good.
Lovely artstyle. Simple but effective gameplay. Definitely one of my favourite from the contributions I played so far.
I included your game in an article of my favorites and added a trophy to your profile! http://fireside.gamejolt.com/post/jam-favorites-ludum-dare-33-part-1-uzbzpjci

Mini Submission FAQ
TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.
CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.
If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.
CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.
CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.
PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).
MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.
MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.
NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
Really enjoyed this one, so cute and relaxing. But IMO it's too easy, no challenge at all. Anyway - nicely done!
