Take control of ☺, our protagonist and hero, and guide him/her/it to victory over the Frog King in this 2D retro platformer!

All code/"art"/music/sound by dollarone during the LD33 compo!

Use arrow keys to move and jump. If you want to jump a little bit higher, try pressing jump when the player has just bounced.

I can't reach the golden heart or go further in the game, because the jumping height seems to be too short. Is this a bug or am I missing something in controls?

Zupoman: try utilising the bounce!

Cute art!

I got to the frog king, though I'm not sure if I beat him or not. The jumping height is a tiny bit too short to be fun...I could bounce off frogs in some cases (like to get the heart), but if the frogs jump down you can't do that so it's pretty tough.

Thanks! If you jump at the top of your bounce you can get a bit higher. But I'll take that feedback for future projects!

Not bad

Cute art and funny sounds. A bit too short IMO, only one normal heart and only one golden heart to collect (or am I missing something?).

Zupoman: thanks! And yes, definitely too short - I was planning on at least 3 levels and just ran out of time.

Really cool game, just a few small suggestions. Maybe you could make it so the ghosts aren't destroyed upon collision with the player but simply have a few invincibility frames so the player is able to get away. Also some platforms seem impossible to reach but I found you can jump ontop of the corpses of the frogs to get up there. Nice game :D

Good entry! Graphics were a bit blurry but otherwise fine. Keep at it!

Nice fun game was really hard. some of the mechanics seems kind of stupid until i realized the entire point of the game is to lead frogs not kill them. wasn't a huge fan of the art although it wasn't terrible.

How the hell do I beat the frog king? :P

I really like the music by the way! I know it's "just" a bass line, but it's quite long and varied. I think it works well with the frogs.

Water, good for frogs, bad for ☺

Tijn: thanks! Best tactic I think is to have at least 2 hearts and just rush in and jump via the ledge. Some guy beat him with 4 full hearts, I can't do that!

Not a bad game, although the real monster is the frog king who was an asshole and turned your friends into frogs to make you kill them. CURSE YOU FROG KING.

hehe, justinooncx, well done on beating the cursed frog king!

Once I got the timing of the higher jump down, it was fun nailing them. I liked the smiling frogs, and the ghosts were an interesting addition. Ultimately, my main strategy was to avoid killing frogs so as to not have to deal with the ghosts.

I found the king very difficult. In fact, after trying a number of times, I downloaded the code and gave myself 300000000 health. Ironically, once I did that, I beat him without needing it, and beat him in the real version as well. I guess the trick is confidence.

richardjs: hah, inventive :) I agree that he is too hard. In the post-compo version I've changed it so it's a step, not a hole. Makes jumping much easier.

Thanks for playing and commenting!

Good game, it's hard in some places, sound is plesent, and gameplay is simple. Well done. =)

For such innocuous graphics, the game itself is rather morbid with frog corpses and the bouncing there-on. As a shortcut to the extra heart and the top right next to the frog king lair, jump on a frog and push its carcass just over the edge of a platform, then jump under him and keep up pressed: Infini-jump! Use this on the left sides of the second platform and the first platform after the water for quick access to the extra heart and the frog king, respectively.

Anyway, fun game.

Challenging game. I included it in my Ludum Dare 33 Compilation video series, if you would like to take a look :)

Mini Submission FAQ

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.

If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.

CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.

CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
