Back to Browse Entries

by SkullPixel - Compo Entry

You are not THE monster, but one of many!

Keep the heroes from reaching the Dungeon Master/Grim Reaper!
Kill them to win the game!
The heroes regenerate health quickly, so you must play as a higher level monster to kill them!

WASD for movement!
Aim with mouse!
Fire by clicking!
Esc to Pause!

Partially named and even a little inspired by my first LD Game, ManyQuest!

Buggy in Chrome but Windows version worked well.

Love the graphics, very nicely done. Good game concept and seems to be well executed so well done.

Awesome little game, your idea is amazing and i think it could actually be a really fun game with more time put into it. Couldn't hit the players tho don't know what was happening.
Had to download it, html version wasn't liking me pressing the space bar.
Great job hopefully you continue to work on it because its a really cool idea you have there.

The Idea is great but there seems to be a bug where you can't attack someone, I hope it will be fixed soon.

The bug about not being able to hit heroes is because the heroes regenerate health quickly, so in fact there is no bug. I hope this helps!

I really liked the concept of this one, but I couldn't figure out how to change to more powerful monsters? I just killed all the players as a blob!

A lovely game!
The heroes would not attack so there was not much difficulty for me, but the monsters are very cute and it allowed me to see some kind of party at the gates!

I had a similar experience as most of the people here -- I couldn't appear to damage the heroes (although I would get gold every time I hit them), they wouldn't attack me, and they didn't attack the grim reaper either. So it was mostly just a slime walking simulator. But I did really like the graphics and the idea.

and I killed all the heroes!! ;)

It's a little hard to understand your objective, but the gameplay is funny. The map is large, so maybe put a mini-map at the screen would be a nice idea. The pixel art is cute, enjoy it a lot! Congratulations for the great work!

Graphcis are great, but some feedback (blood splatter etc) to show you are damaging the heroes would help. The audio fits the feel of the game well.

The heros all got to the end of the corridor, then just sort of stood there while I killed them.

Beginnings of something good here.

I had a lot of the same issues as everyone else, but I completely agree, this game has some real potential if you clean it up and polish it off, I think you'll have a top rated game! Awesome take on the theme!

There's definitely some potential with this idea but needs a lot of tweaking to be fun. This may be "realistic" as far as the life of a dungeon slime goes :P but it's a slog for sure. Not being as fast as your target makes it really tough to do anything and all the heros are total HP sponges which is rough. Also I couldn't figure out how to buy new minion types. With giving more power to the player right off the bat, working on combat gamefeel & getting into the action earlier, this could be really cool. Nice sprite work too. Keep it up!

Nice idea! Some of the enemies got stuck, and a hero stood in front of the dungeon master doing nothing, but nevertheless, it has great graphics and fun game.

It just needs a little more time to take care of some details and it would improve a lot. Keep it up!

I have bug (Windows version): enemies and allies do not attack. Web version loads too much time.

There seems to be a lot of problems with this game - the heroes are too fast and do not attack, they have too much health, the other monsters don't do anything. Okay, you can kill heroes if you trap them near a wall or other creature, but you can't spend all the money because the game just ends... The execution simply isn't as good as the idea :(

Mini Submission FAQ

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.

If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.

CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.

CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
