Eat Sheep & Die

by Conk - Compo Entry

Eat Sheep & Die

Your goal is to eat sheep.
Your secondary goal is to not die.

Eating sheep will raise your health and camouflage, this will be necessary to survive the angry farmer and the rogue dire wolf pack. Bonus points can be gained by eating the rare black sheep, red riding hood or a boy crying wolf.

If a sheep & ram have contact, there's a chance of a lamb spawning (: Eat them then or wait for them to mature, you're the monster, after all.

Enter/B to eat
WASD/Left joystick to move
Space/A to jump
escape to quit

Due to running out of time, I have a feeling there will be bugs, I'll upload a revised version when I find bad ones (:

EDIT: I've added another version where you can reduce your camo by standing by wire fences as it can be difficult to reduce it otherwise, this will also reduce 1 hp too.

EDIT 2: I added another link to a version I don't want rated as I've added the two features I couldn't get in in time, but I want it to be out there as it's more enjoyable. The features are...
- Farmers shear you when you get too wooly, shake em off before they realise!
- Rams ram you if you're too wolfish.

Cute graphics! It's fun running around as a wolf at the beginning, but man, that camouflage becomes such a liability...
As for bugs, I think I found a big one? You can eat corpses over and over and they'll still count as fresh kills. So you can keep getting easy points.

With a little more balance and purpose, I could see this being pretty solid.

Cheers (: You did indeed find a big one and another! The wool is suppose to get removed when you take damage ( I also planned for a shearing minigame but didn't have the time) I'll re upload a fixed version so you can't get easy points!

Thanks again!

I really like the graphic style, and what you did with the theme.

Great game, love that you start to camouflage as a sheep

A very neat game. The graphics are nice and consistent, charming all over. The animations and variety in the sheep add on to the effect.

The music and effects work well together with the overall theme of the game. Perhaps the sound effects could have been a little bit quieter.

Generally it was a bit too easy for me to gain camo, and soon I was fully camouflaged, but also so slow that I couldn't really get anywhere anymore. A way to shake off your camo would have been nice so that you could continue the game.

Overall pretty nicely done, though it could use some more variety by --say-- adding more things to do with the camo. Things I can think of off the top of my head include losing it due to wind gusts, having to colour it to get to certain type of sheep, being able to hide in spots to avoid enemies, etc.

Spot on graphics, makes you feel bad for killing cute lil' lambs. Music is nice and peaceful giving a nice contrast to the bleeding corpses. Lots of fun and with a bit of polishing could make a really fun party/multiplayer game. (one person wolf, other farmer) Excellent work.

Very solid entry! I loved the tune and the graphics. Together with the mechanics, I can easily see this expanded into something larger and less open.

Very cute. Wish there was an easier way to lose camo than just walking into a barbed fence. But fun nevertheless.

1st Thought:

Graphics fit the feel of the game well.
I like this music.
Concept is pretty cool.

Is there a way to take damage? I assume the camo serves an armor of sorts, but I never found a way to get hurt.

Cute game, could be fun with some polish.

Really enjoyed the look and feel of the game, very nice mood and controls. I didn't feel enough threat from the farmer or dire wolf to prevent me from slowly and safely eating everything. Really solid otherwise!

Conk says ...

@DragonGino, there is definitely music and sound, 'M' (or 'X' on controller) will mute all sounds, so maybe you hit that by accident. Cheers for playing everyone!

I really enjoyed slaughtering sheeps. Rroblem starts when you get to fluffy - nothing left to do. Choosing Enter for controls was terrible idea as well.

Overall: Fun!

Mini Submission FAQ

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.

If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.

CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.

CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
