Mr. Yeti's Fast Food

by Balzaque - Jam Entry

Mr. Yeti is usually a nice guy, napping in the peace and quiet of Yeti Mountains. But sometimes he can get dangerously hungry, and running around looking for food only makes him hungrier. Which means bad luck for anybody who ends up crossing his way in the forests.

Although he doesn’t hold a grudge against the puny humans who disturb his silence with their “skiing”, Mr. Yeti does like the way all those winter clothes keep their juicy insides warm. Mr. Yeti calls them Burritos on Sticks.

-Use WASD to move
-Catch the human skiers
-Be careful! Running around makes you hungrier.
-Don`t starve to death

Played a little slow in my browser, but I loved it!

Innovative, flashbacks of the ski-game that used to be on my school computer! Controls were a little icy (as if the yeti was a car..), but the awesome sounds and graphics kept me occupied.

Aug 25, 2015 @ 3:41am

I just want to say that I had this exact same idea. But I'm incredibly glad I didn't go for it, because it wouldn't have been even close to this. Really fun, the controls are loose but in a good, challenging way. Artwork is incredible, audio is great, really not much more for me to say other than that so far, this is absolutely my favorite game of the jam.

Also, I set the world record at 101 before I voluntarily smashed myself into trees over and over to deplete my energy to give other people a shot. :)

Really awesome! Being the yeti is way more fun than the skier as it turns out. The controls are a little drifty and it can be slightly frustrating to run into trees. :( But the animations and art are really gorgeous! Now you just need to add the skiers wiping out on jumps that the yeti can easily eat! Great job!

Those animations are great! Would be nice to have a downloadable version (not a fan of the web player myself)

And puts a new gear to that old game that everyone remember. Ah, the nostalgia...

Wow it was very addicting. Controls and movement of the character plus animations feel so right together. Music is the only thing bothering me, it seems like looping a lot. Other than that good job!

It really looked like a promising and fun game. Well made and great music/audio to go with the graphics. But it really was much much too hard for me. I played several times before I caught my first skier, and that is the only skier I've ever caught. So I think you need to add different difficulties where the skiers simply go slower. Or have the skiers get better/faster over time. I see from the high scores that others are better at it than I am. But only running around and failing wasn't so fun. Other than the difficulty though, it looks to be a superb entry!

Aug 25, 2015 @ 2:07pm

My biggest tip for catching skiers is to follow THEIR ski tracks. Skiers will generally avoid trees, so instead of trying to move towards them directly, follow the path they're taking and you will have an easier time avoiding trees. You move faster than they do, so even if you're not cutting through trees you'll still be able to catch up.

Great idea and really pretty!
A Unity plugin or native download version would be great though - it was really stuttery in my FireFox, there was no sound, and it didn't register keyboard controls until I fullscreened it.

Holy cow, this is an awesome take on the ski free remix!! What an excellent way to make the visuals your own, the 2D/3D look. Those little skiers are frustratingly agile too...

This is an amazing jam game and an amazing game in its own right! The difficulty level is perfect. The mechanics are SOLID. As game-makers, we understand how difficult it is to nail these things, and by golly you nailed this one. Also, the art is hilarious and cute.

This is honestly perhaps the most fun LD game I've played to date. The yeti has to gather up momentum, but it's still relatively easy to control and ends up creating an amazingly fun challenge. The relatively close camera adds to the feeling of you actually being a starving yeti chasing skiiers in a hurry. The graphics are simple, adorable and all-around lovely to look at, the music and sounds are cheerful, wintery and really suit the game well. Amazing job! C:

I'm one of those that spent an unhealthy number of hours playing SkiFree. I must say, I now have a new found sympathy for my old nemesis.

The game felt very polished- Controls where nice, as well as sound and graphics. I specially loved that the guys on skis were just as shitty as I used to be :P
Good job, and thanks for the nostalgia trip, with improved graphics :P

Awesome entry with stunning animations. I only wish that meat indicator on the top would show how far to the left I need to go

Sep 13, 2015 @ 9:59pm

Very polished and fun entry.
During the first try I was trying to catch them on the fly because I thought they sky faster than you run (just ate 1). But then I started chasing them and I loved it.

Mini Submission FAQ

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.

If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.

CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.

CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
