Curse of the Poncho is a game about redeeming the monster inside of you. You are possessed by a cactus demon for obscure reasons that you cannot remember. your new host tells you that there is reason for this curse, that you helping the inhabitants of the town may be your only ticket to get rid of the demon. In the meantime, the demon gives you his power if you tend to be cruel on the battleship. Your new "companion" drives you to a town, visibly under attack... Will you be able to keep the monster inside of you or will it be the key to discover what really happened to you?
The game is a side scroller beat'em up / shooter, with humor elements, drawn in pixel art and developped in Construct 2 by EncryptedCow and DiVeR.

Hey cow, this turned out quite well, even on my sh*t pc, although it stopped working once when i had a load of dead bodies on screen.
If that shooty sfx doesn't ever fit western at all. Well done, though. I'm usually pretty anti this kinda art style as it's mostly used in conjunction with not having much of an idea of game design but this is a step above that.
sadly it stopped working at the time i drew my weapon.
but the graphics are very nice and the sound keeps sticking in my ears. :)
Controls not working for me. Tried to use chrome, mozilla, safari - nothing helps :(
A fun little shooter with heart! It stopped working at level 3 (?) when the baddies (2 in total) suddenly stopped shooting and one just won't die :}
Actually cool. But music becomes pretty anoying because of lack of other sounds :c
I discovered I didn’t actually have to shoot anyone! But is there a moral to the end?
After the discussion about the girl recognizing you, the game stopped working. It looks like it setting up for the next fight, but the bandits never appear.
It was really disappointing because I wanted to play more. Just from what I've played, though, it's a really good game.
Great submissions. I love this game. I played it , many times cause it brought a lot of fun! Congratulations
controls didn't work for me on any browser, but the artwork is fantastic!
Wow ! Awesome game ! Visuals are good, and so is the gameplay :)
It was a little buggy and repetitive, but I very much enjoyed playing. The little details (like tipping the hat) really added to the experience.
I was having fun, but at some point controls stopped working. Good artwork!
Damn, I wish the shooting sound would be little more western-style. Pewwww Pewww
Great music and artwork. Like the concept but had trouble controlling. Should be a little more forgiving on the aim area. Also need some indication you can move forward in a battle. Great start!
Great game. Amazing graphics and sounds. Good use of the theme. Congratulations!!!!
Fun game.
Was there more to the ending or was there supposed to be? I played through twice but both times just stopped once it scrolled back to the start.
I though there was a lot of cute wrapper to this game and I liked the cactus form, but it's difficult when you want someone to do something (i.e. eventually turn into cactus form) but you tell them in the game NOT to do that (don't kill innocents). Some people love to just thwart that for fun, but I'm the sort of person who would have really tried not to kill innocents, and only started shooting them because you told me "that's what the fun part is." If that's the fun part, maybe just make that the whole game or find a way to get there more quickly? I had some difficulty with the collision on the bullets which I mentioned in the chat. I think with game jams it's better to err on the side of generosity. I liked the art a lot, and the ambient Western-ness. In the shooty-shoot parts, I wish I had a way to back up while also facing forward (i believe you mentioned wanting to play with mouse targeting, that would have solved this, or perhaps some manner of strafe button). Nice work!
Olé! Nice pixel art and nice music too. Nevertheless controls occasionaly don't respond...

Mini Submission FAQ
TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.
CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.
If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.
CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.
CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.
PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).
MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.
MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.
NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
Wow, everything came together so well! Very complete feeling. Feedback on shooting is great. The visuals are gorgeous, too!
