You Are The Muncher

You are the Muncher, an ancient force of evil trapped in a tomb by the Good Wizard. Hundreds of years pass and the world develops to a point where magic has been abandoned for technology.

Over time a city was build above your magic prison, but the building of a new road disturbs the earth and a builder opens the tomb. Eat as many people as possible to transform into your true form.

Mouse click to grab people with your tongue, Arrow keys or WASD to move about.
Eat Civilians and Builders but not cops.

I wish there was an information on the police that they cannot be killed. Overall it seems nice. The beginning is too long but the rest is alright. Also sometimes I couldn't get what some visuals stood for.

Seems boring at the beginning, but it become extremely fun in couple of minutes. Loved the power ups mechanics! Best game played so far. I'll definitely keep the .exe on my library!

The graphics was really great. And I liked the game. It wasn't until I got the first snack I realized that the moving speed was only temporary and I did some exploring about before finding the snack... so it felt really sluggish and I was about to give up there. In other words, I think the snack should come earlier on. Also, since the music builds up with upgrades (cool feature), the first two parts should really be short, or music at a really low volume. Else it becomes quite tedious to listen to. If you plan on making a post-jam version, I would consider putting the tongue origin more towards the mouth of the creature. It also at times felt like it didn't orient properly towards the mouse position at all times (maybe hide the actual mouse pointer and give a cross-hair aim indicator). I think it is a promising game. I got killed by a cop, don't know if I actually could eat him, it seemed like not while trying.

I like the game, it's nice and well done..
but..
The character speed at the beginning... it's too much slow..
And the problem is that if you die, you start from the beginnin again...
Btw Nice graphich, clean and funny! And the audio is perfect for the game.

cool game!
felt a bit boring at the beginning :/ but it become a lot more fast and fun, but the sound was a bit strong and loud

Good work with the atmosphere of the game. I had a problem while in fullscreen mode. The monster tonge was going in the wrong direction. (Only the right side).

Cool game! I also appreciated the chunky pixel art style, and I liked the "eat people to gain better abilities" thing. I would have liked more people around everywhere, because it felt a little sparse.

As with the others, I found the beginning to be excruciatingly slow. I went the wrong way twice, and was close to giving up before I found the first thing to eat.

Once I was out in the open, it got pretty fun. The level-up mechanics were nice, giving incentive to keep playing. The increasing number of cops as you keep playing increased the difficulty without making it impossible.

Sometimes I found it difficult to distinguish what was something I could walk over vs. what was a wall. Everything had a similar color palette, so it took me a bit to figure out what was a building wall vs. what was just a transition from one surface to the next.

Adding additional music layers as you leveled up was a really cool idea, but it didn't continue throughout the rest of the game.

Overall, nicely done!

I loved the graphics, A little better explanation that you will speed up when you eat things would have been good. I thought It was performance issues until i ate the first time. Excellent job!

Killed by the police. Music is quickly annoying, until new instruments come in. Rest of the game is interesting. I have to say, THIS is low res graphics ! ;) Good job overall.

There should've been a more narrow path towards getting that first skull. Not realizing there was a level up mechanic I was tempted to quit out of the game without seeing it through. I'm glad I saw it through though. I enjoyed this game.

Fun to play. As others have said, intro is a little too slow and I wish I knew I couldn't eat cops (maybe a dialog the first time you try that says "man, I can't eat that". I LOVE the pixel art style; nice work!

Mini Submission FAQ

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.

If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.

CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.

CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
