Run Fonster, Run!

It is a pain in the behind.

Again the Pallerumphians have used a recent decline in the local rabbit popuplation to rally against all that do not agree with their definition of ‘correct’ and dare to look different.

You, Forest Monster, (Fonster for your friends) are on your way back from having a beer with the boys, and are confronted with some drunken xenophobes patrolling the woods looking for somebody to ‘help them take the edge off’ e.g. ‘kill’.

You have to evade their bullets and get home safely.

p.s.: In the compo version there is no way to 'defeat' the guards, i couldn't finish that part in time (only had time on sunday). Only in the post-compo version from monday there is the 'rockband' mode with which you can 'directly attack' a guard by walking close enough and win the mini game

POST COMPO (literally the next day)

I fortunately found some extra time on monday to compensate for the fact that i couldn't work on it at all on saturday. I was able to ffinish the feature i wanted the most, the 'guitar hero' like 'fight' with the hunters.

You have to use the cursor keys to confuse the ignorants with your unexpectedly wide range of facial expressions. (the key you need is written below the hunters head)

If you get more than 65% then me is so dumbfounded by the fact that you are actually capable of such things and maybe not such a bad being after all, that he disappears. (correct keys +1, incorrect ones -0.5)

The big idea was to play a quick 'guitar hero' like game when the player collides with an enemy. The enemy would make a certain face and the player had to press the correspond key fast enough to survive.

As always more planned than done, but i only got to spend less than a day on the game, so i am very content that is turned out like this.

In the end it was just not enough time, too bad...

Interesting -- would have also worked well with "an unconventional weapon" from the last LD as well. I like the avoidance angle.

Enjoyed the description at the start. Camera and enemy movement could use some work though. It is always important to be able to see ahead in top down games and your camera follows behind the player making it very easy to step into an unseen enemy's cone of visibility

Not bad, art and gameplay are good.
Audio is a bit annoying maybe because there are just footsteps and gunshot and no music.
Anyways, good job.

Incredibly difficult at the beginning, but after I got past the first two guards was enjoyable to try and stealth my way to the end.

Nice mechanic, and fun to play. I think the level design needs a little work though. I wasn't able to find a path out without just getting shot a bunch or dodging bullets. Nice work and very impressive for 48 hrs.

Nice little game. I like the look, all very coherent. Also found it very hard, I wished I could do anything to distract the guards. Also couldn't find a way past the first guards without being seen. Would be great to have a little time window in which you could succeed (may be there is and I couldn't find it)

Fun and simple game. Seems like the area of sight needs a little work. Basically you could not sneak around due the enemy's large range of sight(Specially in the first corridor) and you just had to run through them. There is a glitch where you cannot go over the bridge to the second corridor. I thought I had to go somewhere else and I could cross the bridge after going back.

It was hard to avoid those hunters, also the footsteps sound was a bit annoying, but I ran through the forrest anyway :-D

Great game with simple but effective game mechanics and graphics. Fun to play! Be good to make the bullets a bit bigger too and have "first aid" boxes.

Really hard when the hunters have such large field of view and turn around instantly. The step sound is pretty annoying as well. The graphics are simple but cute, especially the poor little monster. I love stealth games, and though this could do with some more polish, it captures the essence and suspense of stealth games, nice work! :)

I didn't quite understand how the guards' cones of vision work - when they're patrolling, they switch back and forth, leaving a safe spot to hide in. But when I'm at htat safe spot, they look directly at me.
Mostly I just ran. It was more like a bullet dodging simulator :D

Found it very difficult to get past the guards, they seemed to spot me when I was clearly not in their vision cone.

Nice job, very difficult, if the guards turned around slower it might have been easier to avoid them.

Mini Submission FAQ

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.

If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.

CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.

CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
