Ludum Dare 32 — April 17th-20th, 2015 — Theme: An Unconventional Weapon

chromenopePSA: As of Chrome 42 (Released April 14th), NPAPI plugins are disabled by default! That means Unity Player, Java, and Silverlight games will not work in the Chrome browser! That said, Flash in the Chrome browser continues to work fine (PPAPI).

To Developers: Consider using HTML5 and WebGL instead. Having troubles with the export? Don’t worry. See Ports below.

To Players: A workaround is to enable NPAPI plugins in your Chrome settings. Click or Copy+Paste this URL in to a tab:

chrome://flags/#enable-npapi

As of September 2015 however, this option will no longer be available.

Other browsers (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari) and Flash are unaffected, but FWIW there is no Unity Player or Silverlight for Linux.X

LEVELS 1-3 ONLY in Jam version!

What is more powerful than a sword? You can find the answer in our game...

How to play:
Your goal is to create Farmers using the big hat straw button and send him to any free field. Each conquered field adds points to your Karma (bar in the top left corner). When your Karma reaches the red line, you can conquer the MIDDLE field. After doing so, you are the WINNER.

As a bonus, you can specialize your farmer to be a soldier or a diplomat. Each of them can conquer an enemy field. Just think, which one adds more points to your Karma.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Co je víc nebezpečné než meč? Odpověď zaručeně najdeš v naší hře...

Jak hrát:
Tvým úkolem je vytvářet farmáře za použití tlačítka s velkým slaměným kloboukem a poslat jej na volné políčko. Každé dobyté pole přidá body do tvé karmy (pruh vlevo nahoře). Jakmile tvoje Karma překročí červenou linku, můžeš vyslat Diplomata aby dobyl STŘEDOVÉ pole. Jakmile to uděláš, jsi VITĚZ.

A nezapoměň, farmáře můžeš specializovat na vojáka nebo diplomata. Oba můžou dobýt pole nepřítele, jen uvažuje, kdo ti přidá více Karmy.

Seems cool, but even when english is selected the game is hard to decipher. I could not tell what was going on when I got into the game either.

Played it through, can you go beyond levels 1 - 3? Once you get the hang of how the game works the levels are not very hard. Queueing farmers would be nice. Overall nice entry.

Good use of theme and hypnotising music :) The gameplay could be tweaked a little bit.

Not bad, though the mechanics are a little confusing at first. Once you get the hang of it, it seems pretty easy to win; the enemy's AI seems to do the same thing every time.

nevěděl jsem že tolik čechů je na LD :)

Game is little confusing at first. I think the center square should be colored or something. And the web frame isnt big enough for game. I like the graphics, they remind me of games that were circling around early 2000s.
And the music is pretty enjoyable and sets the mood.

Those farmers are saying wololo? :)

i was confused. but the little dudes are cool lookin and the music is funky :]]]

It took me a minute to figure out how to play the game, but I'm not sure if I won or lost in the end.
Why can I only click one hat in level one?
Keep up the good work!
Cheers.

Hello Huo-cuo! I was trying to play your game but unfortunately it don't work under Linux, I tried to run it even under Wine with no luck :( But anyway the graphic looks very nice so I will rate this aspect of the game :)

Hi everyone, thanks for the feedback. We really appreciate it, because we know that our game is not perfect. We did not take care about the UI for the last moment and then there was no time for it to be done properly. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I'll try to answer some really good questions from this thread:
Nilq's sigh: I don't understand the language. - You can change the language to English in the main menu on the first screen of the game.

2Bit's question: Can you go beyond levels 1 - 3? - Unfortunately not, I was able to prepare only two more levels just minutes before deadline.

BabaJagas's good point: The center square should be colored or something. - Yes, it should. It could not be emphasized more then the CENTER square is the most important one in the game.

MrRoboman's question: Why can I only click one hat in level one? - You can click the diplomat's hat and soldier's hat when you have a farmer selected only.

BabaJagas's question: Those farmers are saying wololo? - Yes, that is the right word :)

kivano, I've just added a Linux build, but I cannot check if it works though. Thanks anyone who could give it a try and leave a comment.

Huo-cuo: Thanks for linux build, it runs well! Nice little game you guys made, The first thing that I liked is 3d elements in main menu :) Also nice idea to show that diplomacy is stronger than brute power. I found couple bugs: When I choose English in main menu it looks that it sometimes reset back to Czech. Another one (I think it's a bug?) Is that I can send farmer to enemy farm and it works like diplomat (it seems to me). As I said earlier I like the graphic, now I can also add that sounds are nice too :)

Great little RTS. Really good to see people doing ambitious stuff in Ludem Dare. I enjoyed your art and your presentation was really nice.

I would add a tutorial level for sure, because I had a really hard time figuring out what was going on

Apr 23, 2015 @ 7:58pm

Nice game! You don't see too many strategy type games for Ludum Dare. I like the cartoony 3D people. Might have been good to add a tutorial or just generally explain the mechanics a bit better. Overall good stuff!

I liked the graphics and animations. Good mood and zippy music!

I didn't understand what I was doing, but I guess I won. The three different character types didn't seem to make any difference. They just built a new house or conquered an existing one. By reading the comments here I now understand that the square in the middle is important somehow. It seems you had more ideas for gameplay than you had time to implement. (Who doesn't have that problem?)

I couldn't really figure out what was going on, sorry :-( Everything was smoothly done. Perhaps it was the language.

May 1, 2015 @ 7:18am

I didn't get the purpose of the diplomats, and I don't speak czech, so I was really lost. I guess I won, but I really couldn't tell, hahaha! The idea looks good, though!

Took me a while to understand exactly how to play, but then I got it hehe. It has a different and interesting interpretation of the use of the theme, and the audios are cool.

Mini Submission FAQ

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.

If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.

CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.

CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
