Ludum Dare 32 — April 17th-20th, 2015 — Theme: An Unconventional Weapon

chromenopePSA: As of Chrome 42 (Released April 14th), NPAPI plugins are disabled by default! That means Unity Player, Java, and Silverlight games will not work in the Chrome browser! That said, Flash in the Chrome browser continues to work fine (PPAPI).

To Developers: Consider using HTML5 and WebGL instead. Having troubles with the export? Don’t worry. See Ports below.

To Players: A workaround is to enable NPAPI plugins in your Chrome settings. Click or Copy+Paste this URL in to a tab:

As of September 2015 however, this option will no longer be available.

Other browsers (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari) and Flash are unaffected, but FWIW there is no Unity Player or Silverlight for Linux.X

Newt Scoot

by CorgiCommander - Jam Entry

[The Download is SO worth it]

Have you ever wanted to trash your house to survive a zombie apocalypse?
Well now you can in this survival/tower-defense/physics-sim hybrid about a boy named Newt, who’s trapped in a house in the midst of a spontaneous zombie-alien-esque invasion.

The boy’s father works for the government and notifies the son about it ahead of time, but told him to lock up and be prepared for anything. He's 8 hours away from home, so Newt modified a leaf blower from the garage to create a rather unconventional suction cannon.

-(Left Mouse Hold): Shoot Nearly anything in the house to slow down foes
-(Collision): Open and close doors to keep yourself protected, but be careful, as the zaliens can destroy the doors if left close!
- Watch our for your cat Friskers, as he gets scared easily, and will open and close doors!

- Xbox Controller Support for PC (Right Joystick to aim, Right Trigger to Fire (PC Only) )

Note: Run on Fastest quality settings if you aren't getting full framerate :D

It's a good start to something that could be pretty fun.

Great concept, fits the theme perfectly. The mechanic ends up being pretty unique since you have to worry about the positioning of objects as well as yourself and the enemies. I had to think about where I was shooting things so that I could go back and pick them up later. I played with an xbox controller and it worked great. Oh, and cat is funny.

The art is great, too. There's a lot objects in the game considering you only had 72 hours.

Not a whole lot of gameplay/depth with only one level, it's more a prototype than a full game. But still fun.

Some music would have been nice, and really added to the game's atmosphere.

Love the concept! Sucking up anything and everything and flinging it at zombies is very satisfying. I like how you even had items break apart, like the couch cushions off the couch and books from the bookshelves, etc.

Boy, it really gets tough pretty quickly though. Perhaps I am just terrible at it lol.

Great job on the theme.. and pretty much everything else. Unfortunately, Newt did not survive the night.

Terrific game, wonderful art. The cat is just awesome.

I kinda wish I could control placing of items a *bit* better (to barricade myself in?), but maybe I just suck :P

Really good concept and execution. Reminds me of Luigi´s Mansion. It plays really good and the physic effects are nice.

Lots of fun! Not a lot of variety, but the basic concept allows for some good entertainment on its own. Great work! Leaf blowers are awesome!

Decent graphics. The cat sounds are a bit annoying, but at least it's not playing all the time.

The vacuum is an interesting game mechanic, however a bit confusing as it sucks from behind.

I had a really good time playing it, thank you! :D

The first time I played the game, I didn't get it. Glad I gave it another try. That's an interesting mechanic, throwing anythign nearby at the zombies.

Pretty interesting mechanic, and great idea for a game. I'm a sucker for physics games. The cat running around and opening doors at inopportune times was also a good touch too.

Great job. The game is pretty big for the short development time. It has a great potential post compo. Congratulations to the team.

Nice artwork, but the keyboard controls made it pretty difficult. Would have been nice to have a way to suck up some ammo but not immediately fire it - I ended up just running around helplessly a lot because it was too hard to line up a shot and have ammo behind me at the same time while trying to flee.

Nice idea! It's not just fun, it also brings a bit of resource management into the game with the dust collector. Great mood also. Well done!

Fun! Controlled very nicely with the xbox controller, and the graphic style is great. Really dug the art style - the zombie run cycle and other animations look great! Nice work :)

Kinda wish the player moved a tiiiny bit faster or otherwise had more lenient collisions vs the environment. Otherwise, great game with some nice strategic options by managing the doors and position of objects. The raccoon that ran around opening doors was cute. ヾ(^ ^ゞ

Mini Submission FAQ

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.

If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.

CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.

CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
