The Rose Processor

by Simon - Compo Entry

The Rose Processor

In The Rose Processor you have to create a rose by converting white petals into red ones. The red ones can be manipulated by using the mouse wheel or the up and down arrows.
The white petals are moving toward you, hence the change of size.
If they overlap a red petal when they are at full size then the red petal disappear but if they overlap with nothing then they become red petals.
Every time you have more red petal than empty ones you gain a level and have the possibility to switch between the previous and the new one where the same rules apply (with the 1,2,3,4 top number keys).

It gets pretty hard as you gain levels and the idea is to try and reach the final form of the rose.

The game could use in-game instructions and better everything but this is as far as I could get :)
Hope you'll have a good time, I think this game can do that once you get the hang of it.

Mouse wheel (or up and down arrows) to change the positions of the red triangles.
1, 2, 3 and 4 to change the series of triangles you wish to control.

My friends and I actually used 3 more constraints in addition to the official theme. For the fun of it and because sometimes the LD themes are not enough :)

We chose a few we liked and categorized them (mechanic, control, display) and blindly picked one of each. The results were: leveling, indirect control and triangles only. Not the easiest ones but it was fun nonetheless.

Can't rate(because I didn't take part) but this is amazing. My favorite so far (Ok, I played like 10 games, but still!)

Not bad. Very easy to play. Perhaps have the numbers 1 through 4 have the shapes change and have diferent shapes coming at you. Then you could market it as an autism app and make heaps ;)

I really love the concept!! Found it quite difficult to play :D

I don't believe in first screenshot :) It's too difficult to do that :) Very nice idea. Requires a lot of multitasking to play it. I think I am too underslept to play this game. Great idea

Great idea! Pretty hard though. Nice graphics and sound, it does not need more. Good work.

Very hard ! I wonder if you took that full rose screenshot without cheating

Dec 8, 2014 @ 10:25pm

Thanks a lot everyone.
You are right, the screenshot of the full rose was not taken during gameplay, it's misleading. BUT, it seems so obvious now, it should be possible to actually reach the final form. I don't know how I haven't thought of it earlier. I'm gonna make a post compo that will remember fully aligned and activated branches and make them stick.

Awesome concept! Really liked the idea and spent the best part of 30mins on it haha. One thing i wasn't too keen on was the audio, but other than that great job!

Aaaahhh I can't get past level 2!! Very hard. The white triangles were very blurry on my computer.

On my first try I tried matching the red triangle to the white ones, and that wasn't very interesting. Glad I read the directions :)

@tudd I saw that too on a friend's computer I don't know why it's made with Unity and uses high res sprites it shouldn't be blurry.

@All I'll make a post compo very soon, you'll be able to actually finish the game and it should be simpler too.

Thanks again everyone.

Great game! I could see this on touchscreen devices where you rotate the four rings with your fingers :) Has a kind of more relaxing and less hectic (although definatelly not easier) Super-Hexagon vibe.

Dec 9, 2014 @ 7:14pm

I enjoyed it. The graphics are smooth, the sound is nicely integrated, and it presents a fun challenge, if a bit too chalengeing maybe.

Your extra constraints are and interesting addition, and they're well-used. I couldn't manage to get my head around the game though, my foundations keep falling apart as quickly as I can build them :S

Thank you everyone for playing. It gives me games to play too :)
@willbefast with a bit of dedication it's possible to actually be good at it. But I admit it's too hard. Sorry about that :)

Dec 10, 2014 @ 6:15pm

Very cool game! Maybe slow the level completed but DON'T freeze them, the flower being whimsical is great.

Dec 10, 2014 @ 7:15pm

Extremely stylish game, really too fast for me, but I appreciate the overall polish. Also I like the constraints you added !

Dec 12, 2014 @ 3:23pm

I like the idea. Hard to achieve. In fact i think you can't beat the game because petals appear constantly at same rate so it seems to be too hard to complete all ranges.
Neat and simple graphics let a well sophisticated feeling.

Fantastic game, great concept that starts out super easy and gets pretty tough at a nice rate. The art is simple, but fits the aesthetic perfectly. The only suggestion I'd have is to make it so that it's more apparently a white triangle is coming up under a red one.

Well done!

Wow, this is awesome! My head kinda hurts after playing it, but still!

Dec 15, 2014 @ 5:37pm

Very interesting mechanic, pretty hard though! I wonder if once a circle is complete there should be a way to lock it in, at least temporarily? Nice graphical presentation and sound design. Very impressive.

Dec 16, 2014 @ 10:35am

This is good idea itself to create something beautiful like flower. Not another shooting, killing, destroying..

Dec 16, 2014 @ 9:46pm

Nice concept, but really hard game. It would be better if the whole rose was turning, than only one level, or that a completed level gives bonus, like stopping white triangles on this level for a while.
But I guess the hard is part of the game. ;)

Dec 16, 2014 @ 10:38pm

Brilliant idea. The game gets a bit challenging after a while as you change between levels while trying not to lose any red triangles, but that's part of the charm. Congrats!

Dec 17, 2014 @ 12:02am

I got it after a while.. partially. The controls are too indirect, so it is difficult to find out what key has what function exactly. Will try to finish it later, though. I liked the style of the game.

Very original idea. Good sound effects. The only problem I found was that the game made the mouse cursor disappear.
