Ludum Dare 31 — December 5th-8th, 2014 — Theme: Entire Game on One Screen

Back to Browse Entries

by The Evil Cult - Jam Entry

Solitude is a small survival RPG with crafting and combat. The world has many items for you to collect. Can you find them all?

For this theme, we wanted to see how much detail we could pack into a single screen game. Almost everything in the world can be interacted with in some form and used in some way.

- Controls are WASD, Space, and Mouse. Your character can double jump by pressing Space again while in mid-air. You can drop down through some platforms by pressing S.
- You can use the mouse-wheel or number keys to select different items on your hotbar, as well as simply clicking on them.
- Clicking on an item in the hotbar will also bring up options for crafting with it. It will show all recipes that you currently have the materials to create.
- To interact with objects in the world using your bare hands, right-click on the object.
- Some items have interactions with objects in the world. To use the item you have selected in your hotbar, left click on the object you want to use it with.
- You can also use left click to swing your current item as a weapon. Some items do more damage than others.

Thank you for taking the time to view our Ludum Dare page! We hope you enjoy playing our game and would love to hear all of your feedback.

There is no "win" condition in this game, it's more a sandbox. If you want to know when to stop playing, a pretty good one would be when you've been able to craft a Champion's Blade, a Health Potion, and a Cooked Fish.

The screenshots are looking good. Unfortunately I couldn't manage to start the game. For some reason it doesn't want to start. :(
I would really like try it out.

After the hotfix it runs flawlessly. And as I thought, it has nice pixelart graphics, I like these kind of games.

Very nice Terraria-style game! But more good looking and intuitive. Good job!

The game looks pretty attractive! Like the art style and the audio (although probably not coming from you). The resolution could be a problem, for that I can hardly see the description of the items, and I have no idea how I should use them.

Also, this looks like some survival game, but I have no clue what is the goal and how I may win the game...

Nice, I like it. I wasn't able to get everywhere so I didn't tried everything but I honestly didn't played enough -- but still it was nice experience. Nice graphics and animations too. Good job :-)

Really digging the ambience and sounds! Very soothing and a rad concept! I rate this map with puzzles instead of crafting would have been so cool!

An excellent game! I would really like to save that underground kitty, but you don't let me.
You should add a tutorial or something like that, this page is an inappropriate place for instructions to be. But I liked the exploration aspect. It took me a while to find something to it, but then I couldn't stop playing. And you need to add inventory rearrangement, finding a sword in my pockets takes time.
Also, I managed to fall of the screen to the left. How could you miss that?

Fun idea! I wish you could do more with items, but what was there was still enjoyable. Also the player can definitely fall off the world if they jump over the upper left corner of the screen. Regardless, good work!

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
