C.O.S.M.M.O.S. - Cool One Screen MMO Spacegame

by Lythom - Jam Entry

This is a Space MMO.
It means data are persistent and you will get the same ship back if you log with the same name again.
It means the number of connected players is not limited, exploring the universe with friends is recommanded.

The only screen is your ship Cockpit.
Where you have data you need on the permanent display screen, or on the console by clicking around.
Where you can attempt to communicate with aliens using the Symbols (letters) you unlocked.
Where you can move through a wide galaxy, sharing travel cost with other players.

Welcome aboard Captain.

Post Jam Version changelog :
- Added more Tips to help the player understand the goals (getting a maximum of reputation by guessing unreavealed letters (dots)).
- Feedback when click on unconnected player slot.
- Handle correctly a server error with trip not succeeding.
- Display a trip countdown when moving.

Sidenote : both jam and post jam clients connect to the same server. I maintain the server to be compatible with the jam version.

This looks really interesting, but I'm failing to understand how it works.

I love the whole MMO on one screen idea! Definitely something I thought about when thinking of ideas, however I wasn't to sure what to do in the game.

Thank you for you feedback !
Updating a Post Jam version to take this into account.
For you to know, the game is about collecting reputation by trying to communicate with symbols (letters) in a hangman style game. You have to travel into world you haven't visited to collect new symbols.

Interesting concept, how many planets are there?

There are a little more than 500 planets. I plan to reset the universe but keep the players reputation if too many of them are completed by players.

It's full of planets.

Unexpected interpretation of the theme, and unexpected MMO entry. Nice game, but I (we) get stuck with a sentence completed, with 99,14% but remaining only one point : the final one.

The concept is pretty innovative! I admire the fact that you actually made a MMO for the Ludum Dare :) That was terribly hard for me to guess words (as I'm french) but the game is definitely a nice entry.

Cool - the communication is a hangman game. Nice idea. The hit on the theme is good. MMO in LD? Nice!

Very original idea here ! Really like the multiplayer idea, even if it need an external tool to communicate.
It was nice to play live with you :)

Surprisingly fun once you get into it. I'm kind of hooked on trying to solve these, although I seem to have stopped accumulating new letters once hitting 18.

Wow! So much to explore!
Great game, astonished that you made this within 72 hours ;)

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
