I shot my Computer

by kruemelkeksfan - Jam Entry

That was my first LD :)
Popping out was a game about running around in an office and shooting zombies. I planned more functionality and a more depth plot, but ran out of time. Next time, I'll know, what to do better.
The release is very buggy, crashes sometimes and suffers various glitches. I hope, that I'll find the time to release a patch the following days.

WASD/Arrow-Keys to move
Space to shoot
Q/Escape to quit

Update I
I downgraded from Java 8 to 7. If the game didn't work for you before, it could now. Be sure to have a more or less new Java Runtime Environment installed.
You can find the latest release here:

It could be a bit more polished, but it's a nice first entry :

It worked nice on windows with java 8. It is ok for a first entry. It frezed me at the second room. I love the shoot sound .

Congratz for making your first LD game!

Dec 9, 2014 @ 6:23pm

The shoot sound is original of an soviet target-shooting .22 pistol :D Not quite a shotgun, but who cares :) Maybe a bit too loud.

On OSX Yosemite, the Jar doesn't open :(

-The gunshot SFX is pretty brutal... :(
-I found the game pretty boring (lack of gameplay and diversity) :(
-Yet another zombie killing game... :(
-Don't give up though, this is a nice effort

Dec 9, 2014 @ 8:08pm

Do you have the latest Java-version (see above: Update I)

@Magicolo
Im not happy, that it ended up like this. I planned more features, but had a clear time-management problem, so I had to release a minimum-playable-version. At least Im proud of myself, that I released SOMETHING. I certainly wanted to give up some hours before the deadline, because I had no enemys nor a working movement system nor the door-mechanic.

Couldn't get out of the first room, but it ran fine for me.

The gunshot sounds were far too loud, the game was interesting, did really do much out the first room? I realized you could shoot things through walls, was this intentional?

It indeed needs some polish. The sound it very loud. Cool idea though.

This could've been pretty cool had the movement / collision been a tad better. I liked it anyway. Hope you had a fun first LD.

Certainly a good first entry, and, as you say, you'll know what to do better next time. I hope you enjoyed this Ludum Dare and that you'll enter again in April.

I rather liked the gun noise - it sounded good.

nice

Dec 18, 2014 @ 7:10am

To leave the first room, you need to make at least 3 kills, which will turn the door from red into green. Shooting through walls was not intended, but I had no time left to fix it :(

This was also my first LD. Nice work on your game. The gun shot sound was a bit much and some bullet graphics would have been nice but overall good work.

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
