Attack of the Sodas!

by Upgradecap - Compo Entry

Hello everyone!

My first ludum dare, and my first ludum dare so far that i've managed to massively fuck-up. After having a ton of progress, both with art and with code yesterday/night, everything broke today. Maps refused to load, editor wouldn't work, all sorts of problems. But, i did promise myself that i'd upload ~something~ to this year's ludum dare, so... well, here goes!

I'll try and make an actual -game- for next year's ludum dare, i promise!

Simple console game in which you fight soda machines. Pick options and don't die i guess!

Oh, and i almost forgot to mention and i seem to have lost the ability to edit the first post but...

There's a small easter egg in the game too!

Resting doesn't seem to have a negative effect, the machine does'nt get a turn to attack/rest. Also, gaining 500+ energy per resting turn is op. Entering 0, 4 or anything else that's not a command (from the ones I tried) results in the "you don't have enough energy" error.

Updated it! Should've fixed the problems it had plus the energy stacking issue.

I love text based games so this was actually quite fun. Good work.

I'm actually glad I found a console game, at least this is different to everything I've seen so far.

Funny premise. I was defeated but it I had the machine down to 3 HP, very exciting. Sorry to hear about your issues, good on you all the same, next time.

I always appreciate text games, especially when they run in the command line :D Charming idea and functional gameplay, even though it can be very tough depending on your luck (then again, fighting a soda machine in real life probably isn't much easier.)

Sorry to hear about the challenges you had. Not bad for a console game whipped up in one day.

Awh I lost ): Haha, cool to see you still posted something! It was a nice variation from all the other games. Still nicely done hehe. "I'll try and make an actual -game-" IT WAS, you silly.

Well, I certainly know what it's like to want to submit SOMETHING. So hey, at least you got something done! And you've probably learned a lot from this experience. ;) The game is simplistic, but okay, though it needs some editing ("loosing", "it's"). Also, a lot of times I wasn't sure if the game would advance with waiting or a key press, and then I got impatient waiting...and is there any way to exit other than pressing the X?

Thank you everyone for providing critical feedback! It's been a great time, and i'll try not to make the same mistakes again!

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
