by onilink_ - Compo Entry

Square is a puzzle game between lumines and the rubik's cube.
You have to rotate little squares and create big square of the same color.

Note: this game is inspired in many ways to dialhex, from gameboy advance.

Awesome! This is really well made, solo seemed a little too slow at first but after trying sprint I think having solo at the speed it currently is makes sense. With some audio and more game modes this could be a really great game. In terms of extra game modes, you could look to bejeweled 3 where it has the standard ones, then some gimmick based game modes as well. Also, instead of having the rotating buttons bound to space and shift+space, it might be better to use two keys next to each other. But as it is, it's a really good game!

I really enjoy the sprint mode, even though I can only form 7 or 8 blocks before I gameover.

Thank you all :D
Sri Harsha Chilakapati> Yes, only for windows for the moment, sorry :/ (but I recorded videos if you want to see the game)

A very complete looking game. However on normal the blocks fall way too infrequent (in the first 10 minutes of play). The tutorial also is a bit slow and I would like a skip button. As for the rest, it looks and plays super solid.

Rob Glen> Thank you! I'll try to take this into account for the next :b
And for the audio yes, but I'm not talented and I finish the game 3 hours before the end ><

It takes a bit of getting used to but it is a really good game.

First off, it's very well constructed and visuals are nice. I played every game mode once (including tutorial). Most players will start with the default mode on very easy and I feel like that mode is a bit too slow paced, yet new colors come in quiet often meaning that a new, untrained player will loose and it will take him quite a while to do so. Maybe you should ease beginners in a little. When I tried sprint mode this is where the game really became fun for me. Rounds are fast and you sometimes finish a block by accident, which is nice. Played way longer than I planned.

It seems difficult at first but I could get used to it :-)

This game is splendid. Very fun and very nice to look at. Calling the first difficulty level "very easy" is a bit demoralising though!

Ahah, thank you, and I agree the first time this is not so easy x)

zorfmorf> Thank you, yes the game need to be more balanced, I'll try to fix it as soon as possible :b
And I'm glad you like the sprint mode :D

This game makes you think outside the box, really is like a mix of rubik's cube and tetris. Nice work!

Kind of uninteresting and repetitive. But it's a solid concept which I could see being enjoyed by some fans of puzzle games and it definitely has potential to grow into a larger more interesting game. I daresay sound would be a great asset to Square, as well as a less generic name.

I also struggled at first a lot until you get used to being able to move blocks and get used to how the dropping works. I love the whole feel of the game and the clean look.

Innovative game, with simple but nice graphics with smooth animations and fun gameplay. It's like falling sand meets Lumines.
Control could be better though. Why use SHIFT+SPACE to rotate counter clockwise and not Shift alone? It would be better to use X and C to rotate and SPACE to drop more squares. It's a minor issue though, and it can be repaired with any keybinding software. Later on I will use GlovePie to assign control to X360 controller and play this game for a really long time:)

Very fun little game, challenging! Good job :) you should expand on this one, there's always an audience for puzzle games.

Mechanically the game is sublime and the graphics are nice. :D
Too bad I can't wrap my head around the gameplay. :(

Nice creative puzzle game. I'm rubbish at it, but that's no slight to the design or the clean implementation.

Clever and challenging game! I didn't really like the blocks tipping over if they where on an edge, that made it really hard to plan ahead since it was already hard from the start. Looks good and plays nice though!

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
