The House

by miguelmurca - Compo Entry

Work your way through The House, seemingly never-ending, and find music amid silence and unpleasant sounds.

HEADPHONES ARE ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!, as they are part of the mechanic! Loud volume and fullscreen is also recommended.

Move Left: Left Arrow Key or A
Move Right: Right Arrow Key or D
Up floor (when next to a stairs door): Up Arrow Key or W
Down floor (same): Down Arrow Key or S
Close eyes: Space Bar

Find the tv with music playing.

Well done! I'm not sure if it's a feature, but when I completed the game, the game started again for me. This time the lights were on and I could see everywhere. Neat, simple pixel art too. A fine entry.

@Broivula Thank you! Re: Bug/Feature/Dark Magic/???: the game is supposed to restart, with a bigger house, but for some reason the "darkness" disappears. I can't pinpoint why though :/ Anyway, thank you for the kind words!

I didn't make a game so I can't rate, but this is absolutely terrifying. Great audio design.

Great Audio Work on this one. I'm guessing there's probably something to find in the house, but I got lost.

Good job on the game.

@Domicuc Already have, nice work!
@Smiley Hah, yeah, it was challenging to do a proper walk animation in about 5x4 pixels though!
@sprawl Thank you! Yeah, the objective is to "Find the tv with music playing".

I really like the graphics of the game and the idea to close your eyes.
But found the repetitive scenario.

Very atmospheric and the mechanic makes it even more creepy. Which is good :D Nice work!

Awesome graphics and audio. Very nice idea to make the player only be able to use it's hearing when hiding

Very interesting concept. Graphics and audio feel good.
Could have been a very great game with a bit more polishing/giving feedback to the player. Death could be more obvious and using the stairs also. Would have helped if the doors would have been different on different floors.
Great job so far.

holy crap, was that a creepy experience, nice creepy mood, very clever horror game. There should be some feedback when a monster gets you, like a creepy scream and some gory imagery. love it, well done :)

The first experience amazed me! However, the goal is unclear and the game is obscure. What's going on? Why do I look for that TV?

This is amazingly atmospheric! The mechanic really struck me the first time because I had read the controls but didn't knew what to use it for. So scary hearing that voice the first time! Maybe the "monsters" shouldn't be so frequent, they quickly grow not-scary. Nonetheless, a great experience!

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
