/cast

by yongcamu - Jam Entry

Hello and good day there! :) Meet /cast. Personally, the very first game I've ever made. I think it's quite a simple yet difficult game. Imagine charades without the constant hand-holding of clues mixed with the vastness of possibilities alike a text-adventure. And to top it off, an accelerated failure state!

Update: NEWB DETECTED. Totally forgot about WinRAR. Uploaded. RARs are now available for all platforms.

> How do I PLAY this game:
Played Charade before? Then you'll know how to play this! Get guessing - get spamming, my friend!

> How do I WIN this game:
Through trial and error (and HINTS!) you will be able to solve the 3-word string to cast the spell to push away the apocalypse before the meteor hits!

> How do I NOT LOSE this game:
#protip Each keystroke on your keyboard will push back the meteor a little but it will also increase the speed of the meteor. So, yes, spamming is a completely viable tactic - until the meteor builds up too much speed and then you're boned hard. :O #notsoprotip

I'm a first-timer for Ludum Dare. I wanted to find an excuse to learn in a crash-course manner both programming in JS and the Unity engine itself. And oh boy, it was a mad but fun journey! :)

I didn't see the theme in the game. I liked the concept, liked the graphics, but not real juicy or engaging. Disliked the worm's eye view.

Hey wer2chosen & ilikescifi,
So sorry about the vagueness. x) Added a little extra game-play description to hopefully help with that. Thank you both for the visit! x)

Hi! I'm on Linux so I can't use the unity web player. Downloading everything from Google drive takes way too long (I can't download the whole directory?). Can you please host it somewhere else or just zip it please? Thanks :)

Looking good but find it very hard, interesting.

Nice game, i somehow managed to not find the last word, but it was still kind of fun to try to guess what kind of sick word meant "a warm feeling in our heart".

Pretty awesome!!! Figured it out (with the help of the preposition cheat sheet :P), and it was quite fun!! Would have loved a longer game with more content.

Nice graphics and a good wibe! I couldn't figure out the words, only the first one. I would have liked more challenges, to complete to get access to more clues.

@Morgawr,
Update with RARs, mate! So sorry!

@ProfessorRekyl & @Maurogik,
Muahahaha, it's a good thing that it's difficult. Supposed to really bring out that "OMG BUT IT COULD BE ANYTHING" kinda feeling. Thanks for playing! x)

@goodbadokay,
Music is from, http://www.earslap.com/page/otomata.html. Great generator! Thanks for the visit! :D

@Arkrothe & One Muppet,
Thanks for playing! x) I would love to add more, but my programming skills doesn't allow that, ahaha! I'm too much of a newb, caused a lot of thing to break when tried adding more. /Facepalm.

I liked your visuals but were pretty disappointed in the gameplay. It had better use in a text adventure but I think your game deserved some more innovative gameplay

Didn't find the charade, english being not my mother tongue.
Just going to come back later, looking for a spoiler in the commments :3 ...

Grate artwork, but play once and done, if you don't get the words you done, and if you know them it's 5 seconds to win.

@apiotrw,
Sorry to disappoint, mate. Maybe next jam when I'm better with programming! :D Thanks for playing!

@ponk,
Heh, thank you!

@hypnoticbytes,
GLHF mate, that's all I can say, ahaha! Spam those words out. Thanks for playing mate!

@liquidmedia,
Mhmmm! :D A college mate who thinks alike got it down in less than a minute! Thanks for playing! x)

Congratulations on finishing your first game, your first LD, and in fact your first programming project. I really liked the atmosphere and the mood in this one, but couldn't really figure out how to play it (nothing happens when I type stuff into the prompt). Anyway, keep it up, looking forward to seeing your entry in the next Ludum Dare!

Dec 14, 2014 @ 1:03am

Congratulations on finishing your first LD, thought the visuals worked really well but did struggle figuring out the last word. Multiple clues could be a nice addition.

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
