Ludum Dare 31 — December 5th-8th, 2014 — Theme: Entire Game on One Screen

Title Screen

by regisRquoi - Compo Entry

A thing in which you have to play a thing who is avoiding things to control more thing at the same time, so it can avoid more things.

Made in not a lot of time because I started from scratch on the second day. I could have done way better than that, but that's fine for a first jam I think, I'm still happy with this. =)

An amusing take on the terminology of the theme :P

The difficulty curve was respectable with a decent range from easy to hard (I managed to get to the first blue section, but don't have enough time to progress any further this evening). The graphics could do with a little work and the delay after each death when I have to wait for the game to zoom all the way back in again can be a bit awkward, but on the whole it's quite a fun concept.

One of the best interpretations of the theme i've seen so far.

Love it! The music is fun and I love that the whole game takes place on the title screen :) (Great minds haha! Mine is on the Menu screen) Yours is super challenging and keeps on getting bigger. Off to play again now.

You play as the title screen. Interesting!

Really innovative and neat game idea. Well done. :)

Hahaha this is hilarious! And man is it difficult. Great job!

Pretty cool concept and with a bit more polish it could be a really fun game. As it is I found I was often just waiting for the arrows to get out of my way before I could progress.

Liked:
- The concept, very innovative, and the level reveals were well executed
- The controls, they felt smooth and responsive
- The difficulty curve

Disliked:
- The art. Both the graphics and music felt lacking. The arrow graphics clashed with the clean background and character sprites, the screaming sound effect clashed with the minimalist techno background music.
- The gameplay. I spent most of my time just waiting and not doing anything, which prevented the game from being as fun as it could have been.
- Possibly a bug: Spacebar makes your first character jump, but not the others. Up arrow makes everyone jump. Though giving each character a few unique controls might be a neat idea, this felt more like a bug (it was unexplained and I couldn't find anything else like it).

Overall: cool game and idea. I'd like to see a version with a bit more polish.

Wow! Clearly the best take on the theme so far! Really fun to play, but a little bit hard.

As I said in the stream, this game needs some work. What is needs the most, is to make the things that are happening more obvious and what the player should be using.

Cool game. Nice take on the theme. But too hard for me, since I am not too god at managing several things at once ;)

@BoxedMeatRevolution: Oops! Yeah a little bug here! Sorry for that! (Although as you say it could be cool to have separate control ahah, like the idea)

Thanks for all the feedbacks guys. Really useful(As I knew most of them already, it makes it clear). Might make an improved version someday. Don't have the time right now. ^^

It's really hard! But you managed to get a nice concept based on the LD theme. Good job!

Nice game and level design :D

It reminds me of a flash game called Small Worlds.

Good Job !

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
