Bean Bag Toss

by cmcoto - Compo Entry

Try it with SAFARI or FIREFOX ... CHROME FREEZES at the first frame...I've tried fixing up the code but it still freezes in Chrome.

On PC use SPACE BAR to Toss the Bean Bag...and if you manage to get far with the score, the ball starts to move sideways, so in order to move the player, use the left and right arrow keys. If you are on an Ipad, or a tablet, just touch left or right.

Its a simple game of throwing a Bean Bag Up into the Sky. One Screen, and simple touch methodology. You must NOT let the Ball fall into the ground, and in order to get points, the ball must TOUCH the Player. Don´t let the Birds Take the ball either!

It was done completely using Gabu Studio www.gabustudio.com on my IPAD... yes, it can be done! Lol.. I started to use it to prototype my game, but because of family gatherings and stuff, didn´t have time to pass the prototype to Unity... but anyway, the game came out great! and YES, it resembles a game by Nguyễn Hà Đông(Dong Nguyen), but I made it from scratch... Great Idea by him, and maybe that´s why I used birds... no pun intended Dong Nguyen.. I admire your creations.

On PC use SPACE BAR to Toss the Bean Bag

NOTE: The BestScore is NOT working... Couln´t manage to make it work...It was my first time with Gabu Studio, and what would you expect from a Psychotherapist that likes or tries to do games for hobby... Thanks for taking your time to try my game!

I'm not sure if the game freezes when I lose or if I'm just missing something. I imagine it would make more sense on a touch screen.

Hi Somfunambulist, yes, It´s been happening a lot, but It does not freeze on the ipad... I haven´t figured out what it is...

@Somfunambulist thanks for checking it out!

Simple game which can be good! Is the idea with the spacebar key down a feature (like to not get score)? It would be even more fun if you could move left and right and the bean bag moves a little as well.

Pretty impressive you created this from an iPad. Good work!

Nice little game! And congrats on creating in on an Ipad! I like the "old computer" feel of the game, and it's simple to play, but tends to get repetitive after a while (maybe go beyond two balls at the same time?). AN di took me time to figure out that you had to use Space and not mouse click on a PC to toss the bag :).

@ProfessorRekyl yes I would love to make it move, but didn´t have time to get the physics going correctly for the bean bag.

@Tasteslikefuture, thanks!!! I started it as a prototype for later doing it in unity, but never got to it...so I kept going on the ipad.

@drludos thanks! Yes I was planning on using various balls and making the player move...I guess that´s the next step!

@Jupitron, yes I don´t know why it freezes some times...It shouldn´t but it does...The space bar thing happened when porting it to HTML5, I didn´t know it would happen...

Sorry Everyone, but it seems that Chrome does not support the game, it freezes. Try it in Mozilla or even better try it with an iPad Safari plays it well.

It's got a lot of charm. The fact that it was created on an iPad is impressive!

@MrShoestore, you need to press spacebar so the tiny ball does not hit ground. If you wait, and don´t hit spacebar and the ball touches ground, you get a Game Over... Just like when you play Toss with a Bean Bag... You can´t let it fall.

@MiniBobbo, Thanks! I know, it impressed me also... I just couldn´t believe that I had done a little game with my Ipad Mini... I didn´t need to fire up my Unity laptop.

It's really cool to see something being prototyped on an ipad. Nice work.

Thanks @cxsquared, I didn´t expect it to go far, but it really is an awesome tool. I use Sprite Something, and Gabu Studio.

Seemed a bit too one-dimensional to hold my interest for very long.

I wasn't able to play.. pressing space throws the ball in the air even if I'm not touching it, and clicking where it says "tap" doesn't seem to do anything.

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
