Entire Game Off One Screen

by mr_mg - Compo Entry

This is my first attempt at any game jams. In my head I expected to get far more done but I think it'll be good experience for future attempts, I actually think getting some sleep so you're fresh might be more sensible than staying up!

I quite liked the subject and decided to go to a bit of a different take than other people have been going with. The idea of the game is to knock the other characters off the screen. The game is only really fun as a 2 player game as I didn't get round to adding any AI for the other players. I had a grander idea to network the game but just couldn't fit it in.

WASD = Player 1 movement
Left Shift = Player 1 jump

UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT = Player 2 movement
Right Shift = Player 2 jump

Otherwise click with your mouse to get started.

Nice game. The controls were a little wonky but that just added to the fun. With some more time to polish I could see this being an awesome game.

Love the interpretation of the theme. The beginnings of a fun little party game. A shame you didn't get time to add AI, that would have helped a lot.

Fun idea, but controls are a bit slow and there is not much too it.

When someone takes the theme to much :D lol, nice game. Check my game too: Presidents bodyguard simulator.

Fun idea. The controls and jumping did feel a little weird. I like the extra touches like the buttons in the lower right block balls falling off the screen.

Since I saw your posts about game I wanted to play it, and i wasn't disapointed! It reminds me of Hamsterball one of the best couch coop games. Great work!

Maby have an AI cause finding a second player then using the same keyboard is difficult

Nice. I like that the controls are wonky, its part of the challenge. But I'd love to see a score screen at the end!

Dec 9, 2014 @ 3:56am

Very fun. Good thing I had a friend to play with me because unfortunately there's no AI.

This seems like it'd be a fun little party game, but unfortunately I don't have someone to play with. Controls are nice (but feel a teensy bit weird) and a clever play on the theme. made me think of marbles. Cool stuff!

Haha, pretty fun! Reminded me of the mario party minigame with them bouncing each other rolling on balls. Cool game : )

Fun, very hard. If you're still figuring it out and somehow suicide all 5 lives before the dead balls are gone, you have to wait for them to slowly die before restarting >_<

controls were kinda strange. seems like you were adding a force every frame so that the balls accelerated but they ended up going too fast D: otherwise nice job!

Nice concept and good first jam! It was easy to win if I hid by the buttons though! :)

Surprisingly fun for such a straightforward idea. I see a lot of potential for a mobile port. Great work!

Fun game, I liked the sluggishness of the controls, really added to the game. I could see this as a real good multiplayer game, or when the AI gets done. It is a game I would play and enjoy past the Jam.

Nice hit on the theme! Too bad there is no KI and noone around to play it with. Good idea.
The graphics are okay. The text could be in higher resolution.

Nice game!

Nice way to present an equally nice way to deal with the theme :D
It's a pity that the game has no sounds and I really like that when you press the Jump button twice it drops like a bomb (actually, I don't know if you did that on purpose, but still).

With more tight controls and dynamics this could become a great party game :D

The makings of a really good party game! If you decide to do a post-ld version I'd love to play it with added sounds and maybe some round variations. Good work

Dec 9, 2014 @ 10:49pm

Nice to pass time, could use some work in the graphics section, but pretty fun overall. Also, you can stay on the lower part of the screen, and never fall off :P

Great take on the theme. Gameplay is lacking though.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I might try and flesh the game out a bit more after the event.

The original plan was to also make a socket server to go along with this so that it could be 4 players battling over the internet but I ran out of time. I also wanted to create some AI for the other balls so you could play on your own so those are two features I will look to try and add.

Sleeping is indeed very important, congratulation on your first game jam :)

Even if the game is not very fun in itself (I blame the controls: you are hardly in control actually), there is a nice packaging (the intro, the instructions on the screen...).

Good job, hope to see you next LD

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
