Proelium - Everyone's Favourite Show.

Fight agents, mercenaries, zombies and samurai with 4 different weapons in this immensely satisfying arena-action shooter.

Contestants come from near and far to star on Proelium, the world's only fight-to-the-death TV show.

WASD and Mouse to play. Numbers 1-4 change the channel on the TV.


This is my second Ludum Dare entry, and I was seriously pressed for time with this one. It took forever to add all the extra little features like gibs, bullet cases, the crowd and the TV screen.

Similar to last time, I focused on feel-good game play with small details like weapon kickback, bullet cases and particle effects.

Nice! Polished entry, controls and effects are creating really satisfying experience I think. I've found only minor bug -- if you're standing directly next to the left wall, it's impossible to shoot. But otherwise I really like this one! Good job :-)

It's a fun shooter, and I like the cute graphics too. The game reminds me of smash TV.
The enemies bullets might be a bit too fast, also there was a lot of gibs as you mentioned but no that much blood. Would have liked more power ups, I only got the flamethrower once and the spread effect 5 times or so. Do the coins do anything? I'm assuming they're for score but I couldn't see that anywhere. Also when the game ends can you restart it?

@AndreasL Each powerup has a 1/3 chance of appearing. I think you got a little unlucky to only see the shotgun. The machinegun and flamethrower are a lot of fun.

Sadly, I didn't have time to finish the coins or more weapons/enemies.

And yes, the game automatically restarts a few seconds after all the enemies retreat.

Brilliant entry, it reminded me a bit of Super Crate Box in the graphics and overall feel, which is a (very) good thing.

Gameplay is good! Very good!
Game becomes a little bit slow when lots of particles are on screen, but otherwise it's technically and artistically great!

Wow, that was cool. I love that kind of game, where you use different weapons and face different enemies. And you had so many nice touches. You definitely got that satisfying feel you were shooting for!

I liked the way you spawned the enemies, too. There was a tactical element picking who to target first, and always kind of backing away in panic and saying, "why did I get close to the top again when I knew they were going to spawn!?"

I don't know if it was random, but after I died it felt like the difficulty dropped back a bit to give me some breathing room but didn't send me all the way back to the start of the game. The pace came right back in nicely. If you did that on purpose, nice touch.

There were just two things I was wishing for, which I mention only because you have a great game here done with nice craft! First I wanted some kind of score to feel progress and keep me motivated beyond mere survival. Second I would have liked more contrast in the graphics between the background and the characters. It looked nice, but I lost the hero's position a lot of times, especially when his gun changed suddenly to something an enemy on the screen was also using. If he visually popped more it would have helped. The samurai were just awesome, but their red color also made them stand out well visually, whereas the other enemies I sometimes lost track of.

Love the art style. I like how small the screen is. Been wanting to make a game like this, you made it look better than I would imagine. Nice little animations. With some music it'd be EVEN better. Good job!

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
