RPG Platformer Thing

WARNING: Music may be loud.

First Ludum Dare for me. The time constraint is the main killer here.

DEPENDENCIES:
SFML2 on Linux.
Windows version will have everything needed included.

CONTROLS:
WASD to move, SPACEBAR to jump
Mouse for battle controls

To delete your save, delete res/save.png



OTHER NOTES:
made with my psuedo game engine using SFML2 in C++. Made me realize how buggy it still is, so there's that I suppose.

Can't run the game :( Looks like there's a dependency on libgcc_s_dw2-1.dll which isn't included in the zip.

Sorry about the missing dependencies (gets me every time). Finally back from work, and updated the zip, so the missing libs should be in there.

Controls are a little iffy. You can just hold the space bar to stick to the ceiling. The speed of the player could use a boost too. I was also hoping for something different as the boss. Like a spotlight or the Sun or something. I like the concept though, I'd love to see more Platformer RPGs! And excellent victory song.

Very interesting idea, though the collision seems a little wonky.
I like how you implemented the turn based combat system into a platformer.

Seems a bit threadbare at first, but the music imbued shooting down the tunnels with intensity. Then that intensity was contrasted with the seemingly mundane foes. but then there were more neat things. A short and sweet game, all told. The cyan box be the best.

Overall I think this entry could use some work. The lamp thing was humorous at first, though as time wore on it got a bit boring. I would have liked some variation at the end, and the cyan box only made up so something that we could do before (as long as you are touching a surface you can jump again)

Taking dissimilar mechanics from two different genres does not a solid game make. You took the most annoying parts of both (random, unskippable fights and tedious platforming) and it ended up about as well as you'd expect.

Also, never utilize a joke character as a regular entity. Jokes get old reeeeally fast at that rate.

I liked the lamp battle at the start as it reminded of Earthbound, but seeing nothing but lamps was a little disappointing. The end part was a little disappointing with the float ability negating any remaining challenge. I got to the end and nothing happened, so I'm not sure if I won or not.

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
