Control Game

by mashedtatoes - Jam Entry

The arrow keys control the game but you need to collect a control to be able to use it. You start with the right arrow key so in the beginning, you can only move to the right. my friend didn't have time to make the sprites for doors and controls so they are just programmer art. Another friend made the music for me. I did all the programming and even used my own engine which is written in C++ and uses SFML and Box2D.

I stayed up all night on friday and got a lot of the game done but did't sleep until saturday night. This ended up biting me in the butt because I ended up sleeping until 4 pm. That gave me only 5 hours to finish the game and there was still a lot to do. So this is what I was able to finish. I think i am going to keep working on it though and use it as an example game for my engine.

John Franczak - music
Matt Greg - art
Doug Madden - programming

Also, the game crashes at the end. Still trying to find a solution. I know what is causing it though.

hmm. I will try making a statically linked build that should solve any missing .dll problems

I think I fixed it but I don't have a computer to test it on since I have all the msvc*.dll's

Game worked the first time. I got stuck so I quit it, after that it won't start. Good effort for C++ though. All the best.

very cool idea, that you have to earn your core abbilitys.
but i would have been great if you would let the player know what kind of control he just got..
i understood walking and jumping.. but then i get stuck.

Very DLC Quest-y =) Took me a while to figure out the controls but overall a good game and very impressive on how you made your own engine (on C++ no less)

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs ( and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
