Ludum Dare 31 — December 5th-8th, 2014 — Theme: Entire Game on One Screen

Snowman Assassin

by aDFP - Jam Entry

Hunt down and destroy all 50 snowmen within the time limit in this 3D FPS game.

Yeah, I've pretty much ignored the theme completely. My one concession is that I've made the level so you can walk off one side and reappear on the other, like a single-screen 2D game. It was either that or add a fake screen overlay, but I figured that might get overused in this jam.

Controls: standard FPS controls, WASD or cursors to move, mouse to look around and LMB to shoot.

I haven't actually beaten the game on Impossible difficulty yet, so I've love to know if it's possible. It should be... just.

Good luck!

Nice graphics, but the theme...

It's a nice little shooter but it doesn't really fit the theme.

Thanks for the comments! I thought the theme was lousy (I much prefer working in 3D, and the idea of a single-screen 3D game makes no sense) so I basically ignored it and made a snowman-themed game instead. Hope that's not too great a sin, I'm just here to have some fun, after all.

@Wir Strange, I don't know why that's happening. Works fine on my (Windows) machine, though I haven't been able to test the OSX or Linux versions yet.

The graphics remind me of MS Paint, but otherwise the game is enjoyable.

I feel terrible for killing baby snowmen.

It's fun! I like the over the top physics and the art style is clean and simple. Can't really fault you for going for the snowman theme, was kind of rooting for that one myself. :P

Perhaps add crosshairs?

Nice cel-shaded look. Pretty fun too. Only missed 4 snowmen. However the standard mouse look script is horrible.

I had fun with this game! The white text against the snow was hard to see. I wouldve enjoyed having a reticule for my gun, and I wouldve loved to have seen snowmen inside the houses maybe :)

Also I enjoyed the tiny snowmen and the secret alleyways...nice job!

I have to agree to that cross-hairs would be very helpful. It is very difficult to aim besides spamming fire to see where you hit. Nice work!

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
