Warehouse Willy

by Donutttt - Compo Entry

Collect boxes and take them to the truck!

You earn points by pressing the button to send the truck. Your score is increased for larger boxes. You gain score multipliers for the number of boxes you have in your truck, so pile it high!

(Heavier boxes are marked with ! marks - they give you an extra multiplier)

I'd really appreciate and feedback - let me know what you think, I'll rate the game of anyone who comments. Thanks for looking at my game!

I changed the control on the box placement from key_check to key_check_pressed when placing boxes. If this is not allowed please let me know and I can change it back.

Also, please comment and tell me your scores! Best I can get so far is $319. I'm sure people can do better and I'd love to see it.

Got 299, really nice concept
The box placement could be a bit slower but overall great for a 2 day project! Goodjob!

I really like the concept, works great and fun to play. The fork lift coming by every now and then is a nice touch! Placing boxes is a bit awkward - perhaps slowing it down as suggested by zaabi995 may work.

Nice game! I like the concept, but as others have said the placement is a bit weird. Nicely done though!

Very fun idea. I did get stuck on the ladders a few times, but once used to the controls it was quite enjoyable.

Scored $279. Like the concept. It's a subtle touch, but I really like the guy that drives by. Adds nice atmosphere.

Improvements I'd like to see: Placing boxes in the truck could be improved by using a KeyDown function instead of checking for Key press so placement is less finicky. I'd also like to be able to put down boxes once I've picked them up. Ran into a bug where the boxes in the truck would persist if I mashed spacebar at the button that sends the truck away. Random temporary obstacles spawning instead of boxes on the second and third floors could add variety in the way the player chooses what boxes to pick up and how they get to them.

Hahahah, what a fun game.
Nice graphics, nice atmosphere, everything feels like you need to do it quickly.
$219 for me! :D

I loved this. A very original concept, and I enjoyed stacking the boxes in neatly. $245 was my highest after 3 goes. I will definitely keep playing.I liked the fork lift driver. I think as it steals the packages, and I have to wait for him to go to carry on, he should wizz by much faster. The music drove me crazy and I had to mute it, but it had the right kind of sound. It just needs more bars. The controls felt a bit slippery. I had difficultly moving the package over by just one space as it went so quick. That popup that says I'm trying to place it where there is already a box was annoying. A buzz sound effect might be a better way of letting the player know.

Well done. This is definitely something I would play.

$396 was my best. Cool concept, it's pretty fun! Would be nice to have multiple levels with different platform layouts and obstacles like the forklift. The controls need some fixing though. Well done!

Good game! The controls are a bit wonky, however I loved how original it was. My best was $199.

Fun game! Was struggling to put the boxes in the truck properly, maybe slow it down a little as suggested.

Great! Reminds me of old Atari games. Simple yet fun and challenging and with charming graphics to boot. I like that you get to place the boxes however you want and that the forklift rolls by to steal your stuff occasionally.

Things to improve: The music loop could be a bit longer (probably a time-constraint thing) and the placing of the boxes is a bit imprecise right now, as others have pointed out. I'd suggest making it so that the box only moves one space each time you press the button; I think in GML you can do that with keyboard_check_pressed(key) but it's been ages since I used GameMaker so I might be wrong. Some sound effects would be nice as well.

Anyway, I really enjoyed it!

Nice little retro platformer :) Could do with the music being a few bars longer but really nails the mid-80s home computer vibe.

Nice retro styled simple game ) Reminds me of Atari.

It wasn't obvious that I could move the boxes once they were in the truck and it just felt like I was stuck. Could be made more obvious.

Scored 329. Very enjoyable. The music loop is a little annoying after a while, but is reminiscent of older arcade, c64 titles. Well done.

The game seemed to end when I still had a second or two of time left.

The forklift was a fun little addition, but there wasn't much for me to do other than to simply wait for it to pass. Maybe if I could have set the box I was hold doing at the top of the first ladder and grab another box while the forklift goes by, I could have felt like I was strategically optimizing my efficiency.

When I tried to place a box into an invalid/overlapping spot in the truck, I would have preferred to just receive a small invalid style sound effect, leaving the box still under my position control. The message box made me think the game crashed for a moment.

The physics of ladder climbing slowed me down quite a bit. Especially in the areas where the ladder passes through the floor, I would actually get stuck between the upper and lower edges of the floor too easily.

Seems like this could be an old school arcade game pretty easily. The controls need to be tightened up a bit, though, but overall not bad! good work!

Cool game! On an unrelated note, at first I keep thinking the music is going to be "I don't want to be a chicken, I don't want to be a duck". Maybe that's just me...
