Ludum Dare 31 — December 5th-8th, 2014 — Theme: Entire Game on One Screen

Escape

by madalaski - Compo Entry

A small, fun, little pretentious game where you play, shoot and dash your way through 15 levels. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the boss battle finished in time but I may update it in the future.

(Sidenote: There is not a respawn button or respawn screen because I made a special effort making sure that the entirety of the game took place on one screen. I managed to get this to the extent that the entire game is actually on one level (You can check the source code if you want there.) Sorry for the inconvenience.)

(SideSidenote: Sorry about the second level with the little'uns. You're meant to have a machine gun on the level but I do not believe it works as I put the image on there and not the actual gameobject/prefab... Whoops...)

Controls were a bit sloppy at start, but then I got used to it! Cool game! Would've wanted to see a respawn button to continiue from where I died. Oh, and cool BGM!

The screen's a bit cramped, else dodging would be easier. Some sounds are annoying (wall hit) while others that would be useful are missing (portal generation). I also have beef with the three-shot upgrade, since it feels like a downgrade in a lot of ways.

Fun enough, though.

Could not get past the level with the 6 flying monsters. It was a bit hard to get in at first, but it went up from there :)

Hi there. Difficulty spike at second level with small mobs, two levels after getting three-shot-gun. Liked the sounds and look. Good job!

I actually liked the controls. Controlings the mouse felt nice. I got destroyed in the later levels where a swarm of small enemies spawn and I died in less than 2 seconds.

One thing I noticed is that enemies don't damage you when you're already touching them. I'm guessing it's because you put the dmg script into OnTriggerEnter :P

Good job !

Nice little arcade game. However I don't think it fits the theme as much, since the game may be on one level, but it feels like there are different screens. But I guess I am being a bit fundamentalistic here ;)
All in all nice little game.

Cool game, but I didn't realize that you could dash until I read the instructions on Kongregate. This made beating the level with 6 flying creatures impossible, but once I realized it I was able to finish the game. One small fix I would make is that the yellow score is hard to see against the white background.

The game itself was fun, don't think I've ever controlled a mouse like that! :)

shooting was not working from start or something..
you should also try to put in 're-play' button at the end

It's an okay game. The sounds can get a bit annoying, and there needs to be a restart button when you die, but the difficulty curve is good and the game is pretty fun!

So firstly, when I tried to play it on Kongregate, the game wouldn't load - just stayed as a white box. Now onto my thoughts: I really liked it! despite not being able to play it well due to my keyboard and track pad conflicts, i thought it was pretty nice and fun especially for LD. Good job. That being said... it seems to me like you kind of failed at the theme :S Correct me if I'm wrong.

This is a very unique dash effect :) I could not pass the level with the very fast flying creature. It start very quick and I was dead by the time I could start move.

TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.

NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.

PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate about 20 games to improve your visibility.

MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.

MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crash or win condition bugs after the deadline (in a sense, like “porting” to support more players). We also allow “typo” bugs. I.e. A true that should have been a false, a word that should have been a different word, very tiny changes that you would have caught if you had more sleep. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just things you messed up last minute. Typos.
